I have two males buns: Gimli, who is about a year and a half and Chewy, who is about 5 months. Gimli was neutered a few months ago and Chewy’s neuter was 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am planning on bonding them and I want to make sure I do it the right way so they can both live together in the bun room we have been making. I have a couple questions. How long should I wait post the most recent neuter? And is it okay that their cages are next to each other? They are far enough away to where they cannot get to each other through the bars and most of the time they seem content to lay “next to” each other in their cages. I also bought 2 surrogate stuffed buns to switch back and forth between the two so they can get used to each other’s scent. They are mostly just grooming their stuffed buns. Today I was cleaning Chewy’s cage and I have to take the top off to do so. I had my daughter sit in between so Chewy couldn’t hop out and get too close to Gimli’s cage but before she sat down Chewy ran up and they touched noses through the cage. I didn’t see any signs of aggression like grunting or charging. I am still going to go through proper intros in the bathtub and other neutral places and let it play out but I am hoping that is a good sign?

You should always wait atleast a month after a bun has been spayed/neutered. This helps them heal as well as drain their hormones. Some rabbits will take longer to lose their hormones, so they may need to be separated for a bit longer than a month. One of my males took almost 2 months to lose all of his hormones. During this time, it is ok to have their cages next to one another. Youll want to keep the cages about an inch or two apart so the buns cant try to nip one another, but can still sniff and see one another. The stuffed bunny idea is also a good tactic that i used when bonding my trio as well

It sounds like you guys are doing everything right. It is a good sign their first thought was to sniff rather than nip. It shows they are willing to get to know one another, and both might be less likely to be aggressive
