I’ve had my little Duncan for two years and I’ve never really thought anything of it because otherwise he is in perfect health. He and Ginger have diets full of hay (and veggies 2x a day). No pellets, although he did have pellets for the first year. He’s a rescue bunny but the group never said anything of it. Is this common? I can’t find anything else like this on here or anywhere else on the internets. Oh, and Duncan is a Himalayan.

His nails must wear as they grow, that’s the only explanation I can think of. Some buns have hard nails, some softer and it’s not just about diet, most of it is genes. If Ginger’s nails need to be clipped, I don’t think this is a dietary issue, if they get the same food and share their environment.

I know with dog’s nails that some must be cut often and others almost never. It can be two dogs in the same family, dog’s that get the same food and equal amounts of exercise on the same type of surfaces.

He might be trimming them himself. We had a member/forum leader active on here years ago who said one of her rabbits did this.
