Flopsy, who is not altered in anyway self potty trained herself.. I just cleaned out her cage and removed her play mat and litter pan. I actually had pee in the litter pan and poops. As I cleaned it she paced her cage waiting for me to return her pan. After I filled it and put it back in she ran straight for it to potty. All I been hearing is about spayed females being easier to train. Is it weird for a non altered rabbit to potty train? I put the pan in when I got her and told her that’s where we tinkle, she learned very quickly her cage is where she pees. I didn’t know it would actually work to potty train her.

I am going to start training this weekend. I hope she is this easy. LOL She alerady tends to go in one spot in her cage so I am hoping this will work.

Its uncommon but its not weird It just means her hormones may not be as strong as other bunnies, or she just doesnt feel the need to mark her territory

She is my only bun so that might be it. She started going in one spot in her cage and I put a pan in there to see if she would go and it worked. I’m thinking her breeder had them potty trained or her mom. But yea I’m very surprised she is actually potty trained and not spayed. I know spaying does help kill the urges to mark and also prevents uterine cancer in females and prevents pregnancy. I know someone potty trained their male before his neuter. I don’t know if this would even work with other female buns or I just got very lucky.

With rabbits, it more that we are just providing the right set up for them and they do what comes naturally. Plenty of intact rabbits will have good litter habits, particularly if they’re single rabbits. True, things can go awry when their hormones come in but this often settles down and they resume their former good habits.
