I’m considering adopting a Netherland Dwarf. I’ve only ever owned a Rex, and 2 Lops (1 mini and 1 holland). I was just wondering what their temperament was, if they usually get along with other rabbits (I still have my 2 lops), and if they are particularly lovable.

        Thanks in advance!

i think i may have read that nethies are a little more aggresive. it depends on the bunnies personality.

Ive heard that most nethies have an attitude and are more likely to be aggressive due to being naturally more timid. My nethie fits the stereotype to a T. He is very well bonded to two buns (a mini dutch and mini rex), but he is pretty aggressive towards people (and other animals) that he doesnt know. It takes him long time to feel comfortable around someone. Even to bond him to us (my boyfriend and i), it took months of trust training

With that said, every bunny is different. Some will have the stereotype personality for their breeds, some will be the total opposite of their stereotype

I can definitely vouch for Nethies being more timid but I think they’re definitely braver with friends. I don’t think they’re naturally aggressive. Bramble is incredibly sweet and only ever nibbles when she’s grooming or Im ignoring her. She licks the vet when she’s stressed and would never bite or lunge. I think it’s entirely dependant on the bun. If you’re adopting you should be able to get a nice idea of personality good luck!

my previous rabbit was a sweetie (to me) he always honked and made a big deal when anyone came close to him. I have had two other rabbits since then and they were much calmer than Theo was. Theo never bit and we never tried bonding him with another rabbit but I personally think he would of done great. Netherlands are also very hyper rabbits Theo would run around binkying all the time. where as my new rabbit Max just flops around all day. Theo never stopped moving.

Seconding that they can be very hyper! My nethie, Bombur, absolutely loves to run around the living room in circles until hes so tired he flops in his little bunny bed

My Nethie is the most brave outgoing bun I have ever seen, he is super energetic too. He is certainly more of a people person than a bun person but him and Cinders get on great

They can have many different attitudes, but once you bond with them, they are super sweet.

My bunny bonded to me almost immediately (probably because she was very little)

We’ve just adopted a Nethie, who bonded to our boy lop, Pippi instantly. He’s on his tenth day with us and is curious, though cautious, around people. We are now in the process of bonding him and his girlfriend to Pippi’s girlfriend, so they end up as a quartet.

My Netherland Dwarf is very much a ‘royal’ (read: dominant) bunny, but he’s very sweet with me, and while independent can be a good snuggle bun so long as you remember to pet his forehead. XD

I think it depends on the bunny – just be prepared for high energy. Most of the dwarfs I know are BOINGBOING. Sorry, no technical term for THAT besides ‘hyper’.

@Archer, lol that’s true. I’m going to start using that scientific term “BOINGBOING” when Reese is hyper!

@ReeseBun Such science, very tech. lol But that’s the only thing I can think of when they’re tearing around. That or the “Energizer Bunny” video on YouTube to the tune of “Bicycle” … that’s pretty much what you get with a dwarf!
