Once my bunnies grow a little bit bigger I am goong to build them a bigger cage out of the storage cubes, I am still trying to litterbox train them but it has been a bit difficult because they are not quite catching on just yet, so I am just thinking if they dont catch on what would be the best flooring option that I would not have to clean everyday ? I am thinking of making some kind of tray the slides underneath the cage like I have now with the store bought cage that has the wire bottom and a tray underneath it so their not hopping around in their own mess. So i like that type of cage but want to make my own so what are some ideas I can possibly do ?

A wire bottomed cage is horrible for bunnies. What i reccomend is blankets or towels for floors. That way you can just bunch up the blanket and shake it off outside. I dont like wire bottoms because rabbits poop out a special kind of poop called cecetrop that they eat that is very needed for survival. A cecetrop would fall through the wires and the buns cant eat it.

The wire cage I have, the wire is very thick and their not in the cage very much , only at night so I see no problem with them to live in a wire cage, during the day the cage door is always open so if it is hurting their feet which I dont think it is they can get out and hop around on the rock floor their cage is on

At night, why dont you create a space in the cage where they can get off the wire? check the feet for any sores.

It sounds like your rabbits are young, and if so, they likely haven’t been spayed or neutered yet. It’s not always easy to litter box train rabbits that haven’t been spayed or neutered. If you don’t want to put fleece blankets down and have to wash them, could you place some newspaper in their cage so that they don’t have to be on the wire? At least in one spot so that they will have something to lay on during the night. It’s not ideal, because if they pee on the paper, it will puddle up at first which means they may have wet feet, and the paper will stay wet for a while, but with newspaper, you can just throw it away and there isn’t anything to clean.

If your rabbits haven’t been spayed or neutered yet, and they are sharing one cage, you will have to separate them at some point. Usually at around 3 months of age. Even if they are the same gender, once they reach puberty they could start scuffling. Since rabbits are sometimes sexed incorrectly, you don’t want to take a chance on any accidental litters either.

I understand the wire hurts their feet and have been very cautious of it since they are still very young not even 3 months yet, so if i dont have to have a wire bottom I wont , thats why I am asking for ideas with some kind of way to have a tray or something that i can take out and clean every other day without them hopping around in their mess all the time
