How long would a well taken care of lionhead rabbit live on average! I’ve heard 7-10 but Coco is so active and runs around so much at age 6 that he’s definitely going to live long. He eats oxbow pellets and has 3 types of hays given to him he hasn’t slowed down at all since I got him at age 3. He eats fresh veggies and always has fresh water. He has not had any medical issues. He seems to be very healthy with a well groomed mane and fur. He has never bred either. He is also an indoor bunny. He doesn’t seem stressed out at all as we have dogs and when they bark he just ignores them completely or raises his ears up a little and then returns back to what he was doing. He lives in a large cage and has his own room. He is occasionally released to run around the rest of the house. He can jump on a 3 foot tall bed with no problems. So how long will he live oh and he is a male too! Thank you!

It’s really not possible to say how long he’ll live, but potentially a small breed bunny can be 12 years, in some cases 14. That he’s so very strong and healthy at age 6 is of course a really good sign. That he gets plenty of exercise is really great, it helps keep the body “young”.

My Bunny lived for 11 1/2 years. Unfortunately we had a weekend of very high temperatures here…90 degrees F.  Bunny was not eating very much and we attributed it to the hot temps. In previous high temperature days she didn’t eat much. Unfortunately she was having GI Statis and that’s why she wasn’t eating..  If I’d only known about the details of rabbit GI statis, I think she might be alive today…12 years old.  In all those years, I never cruised a bunny forum.  That’s why I do  now in remembrance of Bunny.  I hope to keep in communication with rabbit owners to help with the caring on my two Flemish girls.  11 months old last Sunday.
