Judging from the markings, probably a mix. Does he have blue eyes?

Looks like a dutch mix to me. I know you mentioned in a past thread that you think he is a dwarf, but dwarves have flat faces and he does not. He may be a mini though if he is naturally smaller than other dutch mixes

Maybe a Rex and Dutch mix? I’ve never seen a blue-eyed bunny. Very cool.

Pet stores label everything as “dwarf”. They sell better, unfortunately. I can see his coloring better now that I’m home and on my computer. He’s probably a Dutch mix based on his markings and base coloring. Some Dutch bunnies have blue eyes, but they are the product of dilution associated with certain colors. This is different from the Vienna gene.

As LBJ said, many stores will say bunnies are dwarves when they are not. The average weight for a Dutch is about 5lbs. I have a mini dutch myself, clocking in at just a tad over a healthy 1lbs I could see him being mixed with a little mini rex. Either way, he has a super cute fur pattern!

Didn’t know this! I am always a little (ok, a lot) confused when it comes to genetics. And the similarities between Dutch breed and vienna marked rabbits.

I was looking at Bens colour yesterday. He seems to have a Marten pattern (chocolate? Sable?)

No idea really on breed. I’m tending to think Dutch mix also.

How much does he weigh, benthebunny?

Hmm… must be my computer screen, but he looks “blue” to me.

Yes JG, although they can produce similar looking patterns, the Dutch gene and Vienna gene are very different. I think Vienna marked bunnies with a lot of white are often mislabeled as Dutch. Blue eyes are only supposed to be present with the blue colored Dutch and is the result of dilution, although it can happen with the other colors. The Vienna gene is responsible for BEW coloring, but one copy of the gene results in white patches ranging from a white dot on the nose all the way to Dutch-like markings. And, of course, most Vienna marked bunnies have blue eyes. Vienna markings can be seen on on a variety of different colors and patterns. Wooly, for example, is black otter but he’s also Vienna marked with his white blaze and blue eyes.

Could be a vienna marked mixed breed, could be a vienna marked mixed breed dutch! It’s very tough to tell, as mentioned blue eyes don’t really occur in Dutch except for certain colours, and chocolate is not one of those colours so the vienna gene would have to be present here. Small breed so it’s possible there’s Dutch in there I suppose, the hear and ear shape are making me think of something else as well but for the life of me I can’t think what. Doesn’t look dwarf breed, but could technically be a dwarf mix still. It is very common for pet stores to label all small (and sometimes big) rabbits as simply “dwarf rabbits” even if they’re not technically a dwarf breed.
