Sorry i didnt know where to put this. My Barbara is going to be put to sleep in the next couple of days because theres nothing more they can do for her as she has a tumour in her stomach and has now stopped eating and drinking im syringe feeding her right now. I want her to be put to sleep here at home with me where she belongs but tbh im scared to death. Can anybody tell me what to expect? Should i hold her myself or will it scare me more? Ive had her 6 years im heart broken, but i have done everything i possibly can for her and more, if there was anything else i could do i would do it! The vet i want to do it isnt in until tomorrow so im going to sort when out when i speak to him. Basically i just want to know what to expect really. Sorry to babble on im really upset, i knew it was coming but i just cannot wrap my head around it. Im going to miss her so much. Also sorry if theres any typos

I am soooo sorry that you are losing your baby
it sounds like you did all you can and thought this through, it is a tough decision. Barbara is lucky to have a loving, caring and strong mommy like you.
I can’t tell you what to expect as I have never been through this with a bunny, only dogs and a ferret but no matter what the pet it is the loss is very much the same
Again I am sorry and my thoughts are with you during this sad time.

I’m so sorry, kirsten90. You really have done all you could for her. It’s so sad she must leave you.
I’ve never had a bunny pts, but I had to make that choice for my bridge dog Nala. She was a GSD so I didn’t hold her in my arms but I sat next to her on the floor and pet her. It was back when there were no vets that made house calls.

I cried after, my bf cried and even the vet cried. But that’s ok because losing a beloved pet is not an easy thing, even if the pet is very ill (my dog had cancer too).
We had her separately cremated and I keep her ashes at home, because I want her to be with me always.

Thank you both for your kind words. I too have only been through it with a dog. It was an awful experience!! I wasnt with my cat when he was put to sleep.
She went really poorly this morning and lost the spark in her eye, so i knew it was time. I couldnt get a vet out to do it so she was taken down to the vets. She went very peacefully. The vet was very good, always has been with her. Im too getting her ashes so she’ll always be with me forever!! Im heart broken and i feel empty, but at least now i know shes no longer suffering and at peace, probably playing with my dog and cat. She was so special to me and always will be!!

I’m so sorry Kirsten. It sounds as if you did the right thing for her, but letting them go is always such a difficult thing. I’m glad it was peaceful for her. I’m sure she knows how much you love her.

Thank you Jerseygirl. The vet said i did the right thing and did everything and more for her and more than most would do. He also said that rabbits rarely fight illness unless for a companion or mate so that makes me happy she fought this long for me!! I really hope she knows, she meant the absolute world to me. It really helped having a specialist small animal vet too, hes put my mind a little more at rest!

I’m very sorry about the loss of your sweet Barbara. She knew you loved her and that you were helping her to be free of pain. I know that she loved you in return.

No-one knows our animals as best as we do and you did the absolute best you could.
6 yrs is a big chunk of our life and I’m sure you are a better person for having known her!
