Has anyone had a bunny with a uti that did not get better from antibiotics? If so what did your vet do next to try and cure the uti? It’s my rabbit’s fourth day on baytril (.2 ml once daily) and he still has symptoms  worried about him.

What symptoms does he have Taree?

You likely just need to keep him on the baytril longer. How many days did the vet say?
The dose doesn’t seem like a lot to me. How much does your rabbit weigh?

If symptoms aren’t cleared up, your vet may try a different antibiotic. Or try get a urine sample with a needle and do a culture to try identify what is causing infection.

Four days isn’t that long. Antibiotics can take a week or more to stop infections. If the Baytril hasn’t worked after a full course or two, your vet will probably want to try a different antibiotic. Since your bunny is on an antibiotic, it is often recommended that they get a probiotic along with it, to keep the GI flora at the right levels. Bene Bac Plus is what I use for my bunnies when they are taking an antibiotic.

His urine is still a lot darker than usual, and he’s not been using his litter box. The vet said to keep him on the baytril for two weeks, but to call her if his symptoms didn’t get better by the beginning on the week (so after only four/five days of antibiotics). I thought it was a small amount of Baytril too! Don’t they usually also get 2 doses a day instead of one? He is pretty small though, he is exactly 2kg. Thanks for your help!

                  Does the bottle indicate the mg/ml ? Maybe it’s a stronger suspension…
I would ring and check about that dosage incase there was an error printed on the label.

Even if his symptoms do improve, it’s better they stay on the abx for the full 2 weeks at least.

Have his water drinking habits changed? Does he drink out of a bottle or bowl.

Yes, it shows ml on the side. Thanks, I’ll ask her about it when I call her tomorrow. He has a bottle and a dish in his cage, and he’s been drinking so much more than he usually does lately.
