Took my young rabbit to the vet today. She was fine last night but this morning I went to do chores and she was sitting in the corner lethargic in a pile of diarrhea. In panic I picked her up and washed her off and called and got an appointment since my vet is out of town. After work I took her in and the vet did and physical and said it was probably mild GI upset and gave her some sub Q fluids and sent me home with somecritical care. She is doing a lot better. Hopping around eating and drinking. The fluids really perked her up. Her stool is starting to form now and the doctor ok’ed me to use 1/4 of an oxbow Digestive Health tablet once a day as needed. I got a guesstimate at her age of 3~ months.

Did the vet test for parasites? Coccidia is a common cause of diarrhea in young rabbits so it’s important to make sure that isn’t the cause.

She didnt mention checking the stool. She said her abdomen was soft and not painful and that she wasn’t too worried since she was getting her appetite back she figured it was just from the new greens and treat she got that night. But that vet is an hour away and the one I work at is 5 minutes away :p Since my normal doctor is back I can continue treatment there. Her stool is almost fully solid but only slightly mushy. And she’s eating on her own and drinking well. I had fecals done on both babie rabbits about maybe two weeks ago? Closer to one and a half I figure I’ll take another two samples in and get them checked just in case.

Is she eating plenty of hay? That will really help her get her GI system back on track. If she had coccidia, that should have shown up in the recent fecal test, but you could go ahead and test another sample just to be sure.

Eating lots of hay. Grinding her teeth a little yesterday but today seems like she’s back 100%. Drinking lots of water and eating lots of hay vet OK’d me to start giving her greens again since her stool is back to normal.
