I’m pretty sure my bunny just screamed.. She made two really high pitched sounds out of mowhere. Ugh, I’m shaking.. What could be wrong with her? I had just put her in her hutch and she was acting normal before that then like 2 minutes later she screamed. She doesn’t like to stay in her hutch without anyone there so maybe she screamed because she was scared and wanted me there? I took her out of her hutch and she sat tensed up but then started moving around and now she’s eating hay and pooping… Everywhere.. I’m so scared, please reply as soon as you can!! ???

          Hi BambiBunny

If she is eating hay and toileting, she sounds like she is okay now. Perhaps she sensed something nearby that frightened her?
If your hutch is outside, could you bring her inside for the next 24hrs to keep a closer eye on her?

The only other thing I can think that would cause her to scream is if she had some sudden pain that has now subsided.

Her hutch is inside but I have no idea what scared her so much.. Perhaps there is a bug in her hutch? I can’t find anything but I will definitely keep a close eye on her.

I hope she will be okay. You certainly don’t want to hear that sound again!
She is displaying some normal behaviours now, which is great.

Hi! I agree with jersey-if she seems okay now she was probably just startled by something. just be sure to watch for any changes in her behavior or eating and drinking. One night a few months ago my bun was in his house (and had been for a while as it was bedtime for the humans) and all of a sudden screamed. we had never heard anything like it before and It made us both bolt out of bed. we immediately checked on him and he seemed fine. he was just sitting there. we took him out and let him snuggle in the bed with us for a while before putting him back. mommy watched him for a bit to make sure he was okay. I couldn’t see anything in his house or figure out what made him do it but I haven’t heard it again since that night. if you’ve checked her cage for anything unsual and she’s acting like herself and eating I don’t think you need to worry. just keep an eye on her.

I’d read that bunnies can make a screaming sound…much like a human baby. I encountered this situation.  Bunny had an oat barb caught under her chin..Actually in proper bunny talk, the barb was on her dewlap. The dewlap is the fatty buildup under female bunnies necks. To remove the barb, I of course grabbed bunny and started to grab the barb.  Bunny immediately pushed her throat down on the floor.  To try to remove the barb, I tried to pick up her head and push my fingers underneath her throat to remove the barb.  Actually I got a little bit of a grasp on the barb to pull it out, but Bunny let out a REALLY LOUD SCREAM ……she didn’t want anyone grasping at her throat.  I talked to her and tried to calm her down.  She calmed down.  Actually by now the barb was all but lose, I grabbed it and pulled it away with no reaction from Bunny.

They can really make a human baby screaming sound.

One of the long term members here (KokaneeandKahlua) said her rabbit did this once also. I believe she was holding Rupert as she needed to clean his bottom once time. She said he looked at her, let out 2 short screams, then never ever did it again. So odd!

How is Bambi doing now? You mentioned spiders in one of your other posts. Have you had any trouble with them?

ps. The photo in your post in Welcome section is now visible. There seems to be a problem when attaching photos on a mobile device. If it happens again and you cannot get to a computer to correct it, just send an alert on the post with explanation and we can do it for you.

Bambi seems fine now, still eating and toileting like normal. She hasnt screamed since then. The spider problem has gotten better, I rarely see a spider now and we’re probably going to get stuff to get rid of them once and for all!

Just be careful what you use. Especially avoid anything that contains fipronil.

Really glad to hear Bambi was alright !!
