In the last few days my rabbit has not been using his litter box a lot of the time. I cleaned his litter box last night and he has gone to the washroom in it a bit, but he has also been going to the washroom outside of his litter box a lot and this has never been a problem before. I’m worried that he might have a uti or kidney stones/sludge, but I’m not sure if he is sick or just neglecting his litter box. I was hoping anyone with experience with a rabbit uti or kidney stones would be able to give advice? The urine in his litter box appears the same colour as normal (it was cleaned last night so this isn’t old urine) and there is quite a bit of it. He has also been urinating on the blanket on the floor of his cage and this urine has a colour that’s slightly off (might be due to the colour of the blanket, as his litter is white) there isn’t very much of it. He’s been mostly just pooing outside of his litter box. I haven’t noticed any sort of sludge or other irregularities in his urine. I’m just confused because he seems to have some symptoms that could be contributed to a uti, he is also still urinating regularly in his litterbox, so could this be a behavioral problem instead/ could my bunny be unhappy in some way and just neglecting his litterbox as a reaction to this? I’ve made him a vet appointment tomorrow to ensure he’s okay, but I’m worried that he’s in pain.

Is he neutered? If not, my first thought is that his hormones are kicking up and hes leaving territory poops and territory puddles

He’s not actually! I was thinking this too because he’s free range and sometimes when I’m in my room with the rabbit I’ll leave the door open and my small dog will come in and sniff around. He’s never left this much urine though or for this long.  Not sure how to tell the difference and it would be nice to avoid the examination vet bill if possible, but it’s worth it to make sure he’s ok

How old is he? Is it possible he’s grown to big for the litter box?

Some other reasons may be if they are starting to get sore feet and don’t like the feel of the litter. Or if you’re using a different litter.
