I made a fleece forest for Olaf about 6 months ago and since he loves it so much I thought I would share with those of you who may not be familiar. It is essentially an open-ended NIC cube with strips of fleece hanging down inside of it. They are popular with guinea pigs as they love to hide in the fabric. I noticed Olaf loved to run through the curtains and thought he might enjoy this. Now he spends lots of time nibbling, nudging, and lounging in his little forest.

The link below shows you how to cut your strips without measuring. I am notoriously bad with a ruler so I like this method but there are plenty of other tutorials out there with clear instructions and measurements for those who prefer them. I used (3) NIC grids to make a frame, cut fleece with strips to fit down into the grids, and used a leftover piece to drape over the top and sides of the cube. You could also just tie strips to the top of your cage for an easy forest!

Note: If your rabbit tends to ingest fabric, please be cautious. Olaf nibbles on the strips (almost like grooming) but never removes any material. Fleece is good for this project because it doesn’t have threads nor does it tear easily. That said, you know your rabbit best. Be safe!

Olaf’s fleece forest is AWESOME! Chewie also likes to run under the curtains. Thanks for the idea.

          Project time!

That is a lovely fleece forest! Thanks for the tip! I’m pretty sure my Yohio would love one

Super cute! I love how the fleece has “Olaf” on it.

That is fantastic. Odette likes to play in my curtains, so I think she will love this. Thank you!

Well, since I have no NIC grids, I think I’ll just crazy glue the fleece strips to the bottom of a dining table chair. I mean, no one will really notice when they come over for dinner, will they? And Chewie spends more time under those chairs than any guests will ON them. Right?

So glad you liked it! I can’t wait to see if any of your make one. Olaf inside Olaf fleece = Olaf inception! I love your chair idea, too. My house has basically become a rabbit playground. I used to try and camouflage his stuff but now it’s just everywhere. “Your rabbit has a lot of toys.” Tell me about it.

The first batch of strips is drying as I type. I didn’t want glue getting everywhere so I’m attaching them in three batches.

I hung mine a little too high. I’ll adjust the ties lower once Odette has finished investigating!

                              Odette says thank you

And here is the finished product. Chewie loves it. I think he enjoys the feel of the fleece strips “petting” his nose etc. I posted a few more action shots in the picture thread. He says: “Thank you, Olaf’s mommy.”

Q8, beautiful! How did you attach the fleece to the underside of the chair? Yohio is wondering, because he wants a chair like that.

I used contact cement. But in retrospect, I should’ve used double-sided sticky tabs – you know, the adhesive jelly squares kind used for mounting pictures on walls. It would’ve been quicker and less messy.
