        Hey Guys…

I woke up this morning and went to Sage’s Room like I always do….Sage came running to me seemed fine but…….

        There was diarrhea everywhere!!!

I checked her all out and she is clean, I put her in her travel crate so I could clean up the whole area….put fresh everything down and cleaned litter boxes so I could monitor.

I have been watching her for the last couple of hours and she is acting normally

She is eating hay, pellets, drinking water, running and binkying…her litter boxes are full of normal fully formed poo….

Is it possible she just had a hard night and everything has passed or should I be worried that there is something more serious going on?

There have been no changes in her diet.

I know diarrhea is not normal and is cause for alarm and I am worried that I am missing something.

        Any Suggestions????

Was it watery diarrhea or squishy/wet abnormally shaped poop? If it was water, i would watch her very closely for a few days since she is acting fine now. If it happens again, you might want to head to the vet to make sure nothing inside her is causing the issues

it was watery. now she is leaving fully formed single but soft/dark poos in the litter box.

Well I decided I didn’t want to take a chance so I went to the vet.
they said her over all health looked good and her gut sounds normal.
they took a stool sample and will call me with the results and sent me home with Metronidazole to give her orally 2 times a day for 7 days.

I hope the stool sample comes back okay and that she starts pooping normal again soon.

I hope sage is feeling better, Lfb80! Maybe she accidentally ate something bad?

Poor girl! I hope it was something temporary that’s out of her system now. Good call on the vet, though – I would’ve played it safe too.

Thank you everybody for the well wishes

I was really worried there for a bit, but she seems to be doing better….

Sages activity level is still down, she is eating her hay and drinking water just not as much as she usually does…but the vet said that her seeking out her own food and water is a good thing and he said as far as not eating as much as she usually does he said as long as she is still producing poos her system is moving along. he said that as she starts to feel better her appetite should return to normal. Her poos are getting closer to looking normal too. still softer then they should be, but they are fully formed and not attached to each other.

I will keep you all updated…thank you so much for your care and support!!!!

So today Sage seems to be back to normal all the way around!!! Energy level up, running, binkying, flopping, demanding attention at the baby gate
Poo looks like it should, appetite seems great!

                        I am so relieved

(I probably overreacted and you more educated bunny people thought me a bit crazy, but with some of the sad stories I have read and not having any experience with bunnies I was a bit afraid that I was missing something….an losing my little girl already)

thank you for putting up with my worried mommy posts.

We just had a little poopy trouble here, but it was only a bit and cleared up, I was very upset, as bunny moms and dads we do panic about our children.

Yay Sage! Don’t worry, LFB, you can never worry too much about a bun.

That is scary.. I’m glad to hear she is doing well now. It is always a good idea to worry extra about our buns. I panic every time something happens too.

Did you find out the cause of Sage’s diarrhoea? Glad her health is back!

So glad to hear Sage has bounced back!
Bunnies can get what’s known as intermittent soft cecotropes or more often sticky poop/poopy butt. It’s not diarrhea and not an emergency and the recommendation is to cut back on treats or any new greens the bun might have had and encourage hay-consumption.
                                  Here’s an article about this:

@narkut: no we have no clue, the vet found nothing in the stool via preliminary tests, it has been sent out for further testing and I should hear back today. He asked about changes in home environment, said that it could have been stress?

@bab: thank you for the article. The vet told me the same thing, we went through a check list but Sage didn’t have poopy butt or soft cecotropes there was brown gooey water all over and not a solid poo in sight….definitely diarrhea

I appreciate all the posts, suggestions, information and support! You guys are GREAT!!!

How very weird that it was watery diarrhea. I’m glad you’ve been to a bunny-savvy vet. We’d be very interested to know if you find a reason for this, but I sincerely hope nothing of the sort will ever happen again.

                                        OK guys….now I am worried.

Vets office called back and said the secondary stool tests came back and Sage has coccidia

I am going to pick up another medication today and they said she will be on that for 10 days then they will do another stool sample test.

I was online last night reading everything I could find on it and see that in young rabbits it can be deadly

The thing that I am confused about is the vet sent me home on Friday with an antibiotic and after a day or so she returned to normal behavior (eating, playing and pooing) but apparently that particular medicine doesn’t do anything for coccidia??  So how come it seems like she got better?  I read in some posts and articles that Buns have seemed okay one day and were gone the next so I am have mild heart palpitations here….my vet said don’t get upset…that as long as her appetite and poo/pee is good and she isn’t lethargic there is no reason to believe that she won’t come through the treatment fine….

So I am reaching out to you guys…my new found friends and support system when it comes to my bunny baby…does this sound right?

                                        Thanks again for your help!

I’m wondering whether Sage’s risk level is lower due to her considerable size…
