So I’m outside with my bun, and he loves it. Every time I let him loose on the porch he binks. I’m just sitting here on my phone and he nudges me, so I move and make a move to pet him, but he darts off. He comes back, nudges again and bites me(didn’t draw blood but it left a mark) like twice, one on each side (dumping my coffee all over me). He has never done this before, he has nipped but stopped once I screeched at him and hasn’t done it since. I can’t tell if he was mad I was on my phone, wanting attention or wants me to play with him. He doesn’t look mad and aside from the nip showed no signs of aggression. In fact he looks pretty happy. Anyone know what this is about?

        PS
He just jumped into my arms as I’m writing this bin thinking its attention lol.

Sounds like he was mad you werent playing with him. One of my rabbits will do this too if you ignore him. He will poke you, nudge you, tug on your clothes, ect, and if you still ignore him after all of that, he will nip you. Of course, he feels bad after and loafs in sadness until you let him know that its ok, then he will lick you to say sorry

Sounds about right, now that I think about it. The only problem is I’ve never had a rabbit before so I have no clue how to play with him. I hear they like to be chased but the area is too small to do that (small patio and can’t let him loose in the house due to chewing and angry peeing). How do you play with your rabbits? He didn’t apologize afterwards, but kept biting at my clothes, I guess to get me to play though all I kept doing was petting him. Clearly a communication error on my part lol.

Lol! He really wanted you to play then My buns are semi free roam in the living room since theyre all litter trained. Theyll nibble the carpet but a quick “Dont do that!” usually stops them, and sends them binkying around the room. Ill tell you how each likes to play, since my three have different play styles

Blue: He likes to pretend to get in trouble. He will tippy toe into the bedroom or the bathroom then stretch as far as he can, then look at me. If he thinks i dont see him, he will keep stretching and slowly walk into either room. If he notices that i do see him, or i say “Bluey” in a silly voice, he comes flying out and binkys everywhere. Its hilarious! He also likes to chase, so ill fast walk from one side of the room then watch him. After he chases me to that side, ill fast walk to the other side. He will also bother me for scratchies, though. So if hes not in the mood to play, i just lightly scratch and pet his back until he hops off

Bombur: He is our most timid one and is often nervous so playing with him is a little different. He likes when my boyfriend flicks the floor. If he does that, Bombur will run off, thump, then run back and wait for him to flick the floor again. After a few times of this back and forth, Bombur will start to run laps around the couch. He doesnt binky to show excitement often, he runs instead Some times he will play “tag”. He will come over to poke you, then run off and watch you. If you poke one of the other bunnies, Bombur will run back and poke you again. Quickly poke him before he runs off, and he will do a small binky, hide, then repeat again until he runs a few laps or sprawls to rest. He also likes when we roll a dog toy ball at him. Its almost his size, but he likes to push it around. He has tummy problems and has learned to help pop his gas bubbles, he can roll on the ball

Badger: He doesnt really play, but he likes to chase and be cuddled. He is mostly independent. Before he hit puberty, he would spend most of his time playing with the other two bunnies. Now hes in puberty so until he can be neutered, he has to be separated from the other two to avoid fighting. Hes more of a bunnies bun when it comes to play time. If he is in the mood to play, he will nudge you a few times. Thats your que to run. Ill just fast pace walk around the room like i do with Blue. He gets pretty bored of this fast and usually wanders off to explore some of their boxes. If he wants attention, he will start to dig on you until you pet, cuddle, hold, snuggle, ect. When hes done with that, he will run off and start running laps around the couch and binky a few times. He has splay leg, so running is awkward for him, but he really loves it. We just have to be careful because he has accidentally run into the walls before out of being too excited and not being able to control his feet in the right direction

Oh my gosh thank you! Well I’m still trying to understand his play type (so far throwing things) but I tried various types of play based off of what you told me. He loved being petted and loved on. I just lay down at his level and he flopped out and seemed so happy. We even let him run around the house aside from some chewing he didn’t pee as I feared (room mate has a dog who loves to eat his poop and he hates that and even charged and rammed her once) but he did fine. She even tried to play with him and he tried back but neither of them seemed to understand the others play mode lol. Now he loves it so much he wouldn’t stop banging on his cage cage doors and kept waking me up. New problem, new forum post lol. Again thank you. I feel closer to him now.

Bombur!  What a great name for a Bunny!

Clover, even though she’s only been here a few days has been showing her playful side.  She runs in circles around me when I stand in the middle of the room, or binks around and then runs into my leg, paws at it then runs away again, wanting me to play with and chase her.

Sometimes she’ll run up to one of the kittens and bump her with her head, and run away.  Pretty sure she laughs when she does.
