My two bunnies Thumper and Charlie. Attack each other outside of the cage but groom each other through the cage bars. Why?

Theyre not bonded inside of the cage. Inside of the cage, one of them owns it, and the other is intruding (or theyre both intruding on neutral area). Outsid eof the cage, they share territory

If one is out side the cage they go straight to the others cage and each will groom each other.
When thumper had been moved away from the group after being neutered for keeping calm reasons Charlie would escape his cage and go sit next to thumpers cage. But if they are out of the cage in a neutral area like if we go upstairs or something they will still fight like crazy

Its normal for unbonded rabbits to fight in neutral areas. They dont fight in areas they consider shared (both of theirs) territory. So in neutral territory or territory only owned by one of them, they will fight until they have a cemented bond. And even then, they might fight in neutral territory so youll have to bond them there until they stop

My buns are pretty much the same. They don’t groom but they always want to spend time with each other through the bars. Sometimes even laying next to each other. I’ve given up trying to bond because of aggressive biting. I figure close neighbors is better than nothing.

Thats pretty much where I am with this bonding process.

Lolz I’m having the same problem. Saw them laying next to each other through the bars made me think they like each other , then they enter fight mode as soon as I let both of them out. Then I freak out and pull one of them back in cage again. They have been in same room different cages for about 4 months
