Hello! So we have two rabbits, a bonded M&F of 6 and 3. They have their own bedroom (the biggest of course)!

Recently a friend found a 6 month(ish) old female abandoned on the street so we agreed to take her in. She had an injured leg and cataract so we’ve kept her in the other spare bedroom until she was better and recovered from her speying. We’re afraid about introducing her to the others in case it breaks their bond. We’re out of bedrooms!

One thought was whether we get another male and bond him with the new rabbit, then try to introduce them as two pairs. Does anyone have any experience with this? We work quite long hours so hate the thought of her bring lonely but don’t want to risk upsetting the status quo.

If anyone has any thoughts I’d be very grateful!

          Bumpity bump bump.

I know there are a few members here who could give you some great advice based on their own similar experience (GJ?)

My instinct would be to try and if they don’t take to one another smoothly right away, bond a second pair and then try again much later. I could be wrong, though, as I live with a determined bachelor bun.

We had a single bun and a pair, bonding as a trio didn’t work, so we adopted fourth, which led to two happy pairs. Couldn’t bond the quartet, each pair has half the dining room, that works fine, each pair get floor time every evening if they spent the day outside, and morning and evening if the weather is too bad to get out.

I agree with Q8. see if the trio looks like an easy bond, if not then look to adopt a forth, but if you try that be aware that not every bond works out, so consider how you would approach bonding yr new bun to a forth, some rescues do offer bonding services. There are several posts on here on the bonding journey of our buns!

Thanks a lot for the advice. We had a pretty bad first experience with the trio so we decided it’s not worth the risk. We got a fourth rabbit – Walt – and once he’s had his operation and the hormones have died down we’ll start trying to bond him. If that goes to plan the original two bunnies have such a big room that we’ll split that down the middle to start, and see where we end up from there. Will let you all know!
