        Hey, everyone!
My name is Juan and I’m a new bunny owner, three months ago I adopted a lionhead rabbit and since then Ive been doing lots of research and whatnot.
When we got him the store clerk said he was about 3-4 months old, he’s an unaltered male rabbit, we have full intentions on gettim him neutered, however we had an incident and decided to wait until he got over it, let me explain.
Ender, our bunny, used to live In a cage. We would let him out all day but would place him back inside every night, to which he would start rattling and bitting-pulling his cage bars. He was very enthusiastic one night and my wife and I noticed the next day that he wasn’t eating very well and it took us two days to realize the poor thing had broken his upper teeth!
Since then he’s a free range bunny, we took lots of care with his food, slicing his veggies in very thin pieces and hand feeding him. He’s perfectly fine now, his teeth have grown back and he’s very energetic and is eating his veggies normally again (I like to joke around saying he lost a battle but won the war since he’s free range now :p)

But that’s not why I’m looking for advice, its been a couple of weeks since he’s perfectly fine, but recently he became very vocal and we started noticing some behaviour changes . first of all. He’s always been very independent and would only request petting once in a while, but he will always ask for attention now, we basically pet him dozens of times throughout a day, while we only used to to it a couple of times (not because we didn’t want to, but he would always ignore us and hop away)
He also started being very nosy, whenever he rests and gets up running to my feet he would do so by doing a sort of honking, soft grunting noise. He does it even when he’s hopping around
I thought it might be sign of something being wrong, but he would flop right there in my feet or ask to be petted, he eats normally and poops normally as well.
I’m a bit confused with his behaviour, however I believe it might be his hormones? I’m not entirely sure and that’s why Ive come here to ask for advice, were looking into getting him neutered sometime next week.
Thanks for any insight on this! He seems happy all the time but Im a very paranoid dad :p

          Welcome Juan and Ender-bunny!

Ender sounds like he is loving all the affection.
I think you are spot on. It sounds like hormones to me. Female rabbits do this too. My first rabbit was about 5 months old when I first heard the humming noise while she was hopping around. Then she started growling too when I disturbed her in her hiding spots.

My older bunny broke his teeth earlier this year. It’s amazing how quickly they grow back, isn’t it?!

My bunny honks eveytime he takes a hop. He has done this ever since I rescued him 4 years ago. He is in perfect health. Apparently some bunny do this, it might be some sort of communication rabbits use to communicate but that is just speculation.

Thank you all for your replies!
I’ve come to the conclusion that hormones are in place as well, yesterday Ender began circling my feet all night long honking, which I’ve read is a mating thing lol We’ll schedule a visit to the vet this Monday to get him neutered :p I’ll miss him asking for so much attention though

@Jerseygirl: Ender never liked it when I disturbed his hiding spot too haha and about their teeth, yes! It’s quite amazing! I was so shocked at first, I actually got Ender to a vet to check for any signs of infection or anything and his teeth where already coming back again! I was so relieved to see his appetite was normal and that he was regularly using his litter box!

@Vienna: I’ll surely miss Ender being so noisy and loving as well!

@drwil: I’m very curious about that, I’m planning on getting Ender a rabbit companion after he’s been neutered, I wonder if they’ll be honking all the time

You may still hear the hum from time to time. I still hear it on occasion from my single male rabbit and he’s been desexed for 4.5 years.

That’s nice that you intend to get him a friend. Be certain wait at least a month after the neuter. By that time the effects of hormones will have settled. Some rabbits can even become more crazy right after the neuter, then it settles again. They can also still impregnate an intact female rabbit 4-6 weeks after.
