Bernie is around 8 years old and has been neutered since he first started circling, honking, and mounting my feet at around six months. The behavior stopped for several years but has recently started up again with a vengeance. I can’t walk from the bedroom to the kitchen without him circling my feet and if I stand still in one spot he is constantly biting and digging my feet. His vet says it is rare but does happen and that there is not a whole lot to be done about it. Has anyone else experienced this with an older rabbit? I love him like a child but he’s really starting to drive me crazy! I’m especially worried about accidentally hurting him…if I get up in the middle of the night he immediately begins running between my feet and I’m so afraid I’m going to step on him or trip over him. He also sprays my feet with urine, poops outside of his litter box, and is constantly trying to pee on my husband’s pillow…all things he never did for the last seven years.

It has been postulated that testosterone is not only produced by the testes in rabbits, but that the adrenal glands can take over some of the production. An adrenal gland tumor might give rise to elevated levels of testosterone. I’d ask my vet about that since this is an elderly bun. There are veterinary treatment options since this is sth that’s often seen in ferrets.
