Hey guys, I’m new here. My bunny is about 12 weeks old, and I noticed this morning he had very very bad runny poop. When I got him out of his cage to clean his bottom his poor tummy was sloshing like it was full of water. Yesterday morning he had his pellets, and he had some broccoli as well as his hay. I had read online mixed reviews about the safety of broccoli but this morning I searched ‘fed my bunny broccoli and he’s sick’ and I found that broccoli isn’t the best option… I’m really really nervous about something happening to him, I have been calling around to vet offices trying to find a vet that sees rabbits in my area but I’m freaking out. Is he going to be ok?

A very young bunny that gets diarrhea needs to see a vet asap. If he isn’t producing any round poop, just runny stools, perhaps with mucous, this sounds like true diarrhea. That is very serious and probably not due to the broccoli but to bad bacteria or a parasite that has managed to colonize your bun’s gut.
The important thing is to get him to a vet where he can be rehydrated and put on antibiotics. Any vet should be able to do that, give sub q fluids and sulfonamide/trimethoprim for coccidiosis or bacterial enteritis. But act quick. Call them now.

          Many healing-vibes for your bunny.

Are there hard pellets and runny caecotrophs? Or is everything diarrhea?

If he has hard pellets plus diarrhea it is probably the diet. One of my rabbits can only eat greens and hay or she gets diarrhea.

Agree with barn, take him to the vet. Then only give natural foods. If you give him pellets make sure they are the plain, not fancy type with corn and nuts (that stuff makes some rabbits like mine very sick). No sugars either.

Good luck! Keep in touch so we know how things go.
