My buns now 3 . Please don’t be negative toward me I was not aware they should be spay at a young age. However I’m planning on having it done this summer . I am afraid though. I have heard so many questions about what if her attitude changes. I love how loving and playful she is and loving. But I seen storied where thever spay had changed them for the worse …..please give me some advice . And is it true they come home on the same day? That’s what my vet said . Anyway. The vet said she is still very healthy and I am taking great care of her and that it’s not too late to spay her
        Thanks in advance!

Sorry I cannot give much advice but my situation is the same. My bun is 4.5 years and just scared something will go wrong. But….people keep on saying it must be done before 5 due to risk of cancer.

FWIW my vet said there is a lot of fat storage around the ovaries in older rabbits making a spay more challenging for the surgeon. But that does not mean it is more challenging for the rabbit.

About them coming home on the same day, that is true.

Good luck…but do not worry so much. 3 is not very old.

I’ve just had my bun done – she is 2 and a half (ish) – everything went fine – she was back on the same day – the vet noticed something in the utérus that will surely have caused problems if I had not had it done, now.

If the vet she is in good health and can be operated on, then there’s no reason to be scared – we all are though, you’re not alone

My bun’s character has not changed for the worse – but for the better – she was getting territorial and now she’s just caaaaaalm.

Just ask yourself how you would feel if she fell ill and died and you could have prevented it….? There’s your answer

It’s always stressful when a bunny undergoes a procedure like this. If you are concerned, you could always do pre-anaesthetic bloodwork to ensure she is healthy enough to undergo it.

Getting your girl spayed really is in her best interest.

Ava was spayed at about 2 years old, Mordecai was neutered at about 3 years old, so don’t worry about her being too old to be spayed. I too would suggest getting pre-spay bloodwork. It can help determine any underlying issue. I was absolutely terrified about getting Ava spayed for reasons I don’t really want to get into, but especially with does, I think it’s very necessary.

As for how long she’ll stay, it varies between vets. At our vet, females stay 2 nights after a spay, males stay 1 night after a neuter. Though Mordecai had to stay 2 nights after his neuter because he was a crypt-orchid neuter.
