Hello everyone. I am a somewhat new bunny owner and while cuddling her just now I noticed something that I need to know about.

While on my chest I was giving her pats and such and I happened to feel something I found odd. On her left side located from her neck to behind her front leg is a fatty mass under the skin. It’s movable and squishy but you can feel an odd fatty texture inside the lump. It’s about 1/2″ thick and about 2.5″ long.

I have never noticed it before and it’s only located on one side. I am pretty freaked out about it. I intend to bring her to see a vet but I wanted to know if this is something normal or not in the meantime.

when my bunny had an abscess in his belly it felt like you’re describing what your one has… it took me a while to notice it because it felt sort like normal abdominal fat, just a little bit harder.

please be sure to have her evaluated soon, so you can know for sure what it is

It could be a lipoma, those can form in the dewlap of girls. They’re not malignant. It’s best to take her in though. I wish you the best of luck. We’d be very happy for updates.

Ok so to specify, she is 1 year old and fixed.

I brought her in first thing this morning, the vet felt the bump and couldn’t quite tell. She put a needle in it, nothing burst and no puss or fluid in the needle at all. She tested what was in the tip of the needle and said that it was mostly fatty content but there was something that looked different but she has to do some research. She said it doesn’t look ominous at all but they are going to send in the fluid for testing on Monday. She’s also a little overweight, I assume it’s from too many pellets so I’ll lower her intake.

                   Gonna wait until monday.

That sounds good so far, thank you for updating! Rabbit pus won’t readily drain through a needle, because it’s very thick and “stiff” kind of like toothpaste. But a rabbit vet of course knows this. Keeping my fingers crossed it’s just a fatty lump! You can increase greens when you cut back on pellets so she doesn’t get so hungry. Leafy greens are low cal.

At about 10 years, the vet detected that Bunny had a breast tumor.  He asked me what I wanted to do.  I guess some 10 year old rabbit owners would say do nothing.  For me it was not a decision.  I said get rid of it…. $400.  I thought…Bunny has 8 titties!! I could be looking at $3200 for breast surgeries!!!  Actually, she never developed tumors in her remaining 7 mammary glands.

The vet, a rabbit vet, did say that rabbit tumors can sometimes grow very fast and once a growth is detected, you have to watch it closely.
