Hello everyone! Long time reader, first time submitter(?) haha

I got my little bun, Toby (tobs’ for short, or tobert, as her daddy likes to call her) a little over 4 months ago and I figured it was about time i jump into this wonderful community properly!

Toby and I have been slowly getting used to each other. I adopted her from a shelter when nobody else wanted her because she was so aggressive, I was told she was an owner surrender and I wonder, a lot, how bad her old home must have been for her to have become this way (she lunges and growls sometimes, but now it’s more when she’s excited then feeling threatned. I’ve noticed chunks missing from her ears where it looks like someone had tried cutting them with scissors) regardless though, as soon as I saw her I fell in love. The day we brought her home, she jumped straight from her carrying box into her new cage without any fuss and has been happy there ever since.

Since then she’s really come out of her shell. She lets me pet her all the time, and loves running a muck in my bedroom while im reading or trying to take cute pictures of her to post on instagram.

Three months before i adopted her, I was diagnosed with clinical depression, something i’ve been struggling with for over 5 years without treatment. I never intended for Toby to be a therapy companion but, she’s saved my life in more ways then i would have ever imagined a little fluff ball could.

Anyways!!! That’s our story in all it’s melodramatic glory! It’s nice to meet everybody and finally introduce myself for real

(I can’t figure out how to post pictures but i assure you Toby is adorable ;D)

Edit: with the help of jerseygirl it looks like i can now upload a pic of my little bun for everyone to see! <3 Thank you so much for your help!

Welcome to you and Toby! Great that you took the leap to post instead of just reading.

You’re an Angel. Thank you so much fpr adopting her. Those rabbits that are overlooked can so often be a diamond in the rough. They are so so often misunderstood also. Sounds like she fell on her feet with you.

How did you come to naming her Toby? Or did she come with the name?

Re your depression and relationship with Toby, I feel exactly the same about my first rabbit Jersey. She is over the rainbow bridge now but wow, I can’t imagine my life if I had not met her tbh. She and my other rabbits have and do a lot for my well being. So I can completely relate! And I know a lot of the folk here on BB do also.

Im one of the Mods here so I tried insert the attachments you had uploaded. Unsuccessfully!! I think I might know the issue but I’ll send you a PM to go into that. I can see from the avatar what a cutie she is but we are hungry for full size photos on here.

Hopefully between us we can get some up soon.

Jelly and Toby !! What a brill pairing name !! And welcome! I can see she’s gorgeous – a black Podge !!!!!! Do you know how old she is?

Yes Jersey is right, (often the case! Booooooring !) to take on a rabbit that at the outset that seemed aggressive, is a lovely thing to do. Could the ‘scissor’ marks be bite marks from another rabbit ? I know mine makes a diagonal scissor-like ‘chomp’ mark in anything she’s bitten (just last night, a bag-for-life bag…!)

Re health and animals – oh yeeees, such brilliant, non-chemical, effective therapy/medicine they are.
Buns, cats, dogs, parrots…(nod to Dory!), horses….. hamsters… whatever creature rocks your boat…

Whether it’s the no-strings attached unconditional love, the responsibilty it brings to us to care for this creature, the mental stimulation they provide or a mixture of all 3, I absolutely believe in the healing power and good they do to us mere humans.
            (Amen!! )

Hello there and a big welcome to the forum I’m so glad that you could rescue Toby and give her the life that she deserves, it sounds like she’s really starting to relax and be at ease.

Thank you so much everyone!! You’re all so nice and welcoming, aah! I feel all warm and fuzzy inside <3

Toby was the name she was given when we got her. My boyfriend and I decided to stick with it, its kind of funny because people are always confused by her gender when they hear her name at first. I think if we were to rename her though I would all call her Rosemary, it suits her character haha.

I’m also actually not sure how old she is. Her info has “unknown” stated under her age, but id probably venture a guess around 3 or 4. She seems a bit older to me, but as someone who’s never had a bunbun before I couldn’t base if off of anything other then what i’ve read online.

As for the scissor marks, you might be right, in all the phone cables of mine she’s chewed through they’ve also looked similar to her little ear notch.

Hello and welcome to Binky Bunny! It’s wonderful that you adopted Toby from the shelter, especially since she was likely deemed unadoptable. As you can see from my username, I once had a bunny named Toby, who was also a female. I know that it’s a more masculine name, but it really seemed to fit her. Your Toby is a real cutie!

Glad you got her pic up. I just love the agouti bunnies and those big brown eyes. <3 Was it just the file name that was the problem? It will be good to know for certain in case anyone else experiences that.

@tobyluv, do you remember kralspace that used to be active on here a lot? She had a dutch like your Toby who was named Daisy. :p I love it when their names throw people a curve ball.
