Hello I’m new to the forums. I’m in desperate need of answers from anyone who may have had this happen to their bunny. I have a 3 year old male Holland Lop. He’s an indoor rabbit, completely house trained. His name is Oreo. Sunday the (10th) he was acting kind of funny. Not as excited to see me as I walked into the room but still had his normal appetite. As the day progressed he became more and more lethargic. Didn’t seem like he was in any pain. My uncle, who handles him the most, picked him like he usually did and noticed that his head was tilted to his right side and eventually got to a point where Oreo would only lay on his side, motionless. We decided to have an emergency visit to the vet. On the way to the vet he started to panic and was making “oinking” noises with his back legs completely stretched out and eventually started kicking. This lasted for about 10 minutes before he calmed down and was laying on his side… He actually seemed comfortable and was licking my hand as I pet him. Took the vetanerian 45 minutes before she showed up.. she examined him and said he had a temp of 105 and needed to get it down.. she misted him with some water and had a fan blowing on him as well as put a cool, not frozen ice pack underneath him.. at this point Oreo was relaxed and seemed to be a whole new bunny and his normal self… we set him down on the ground after his temperature went down… he was still wobbly but still able to hop over to me.. his head was still slightly tilted but not as noticeable. He was diagnosed with wry neck and was given an antibiotic shot and pills that we give him daily called Baytril. Oreo scared us but now things were looking great…
It’s now Tuesday and he has us worried again… his his is no longer tilted but his hind legs have progressively gotten more paralyzed. He was hopping around okay yesterday but not like he normally would.. Today He attempts to stand and move around but doesn’t seem to have control of his legs. He seems to have feeling because he tries to move them when I tickle his back legs. He doesn’t move much but still his normal self. He even got all excited when I brought him his bowl of salad.. but fell over almost rolling on his back trying to get up. This scared me so I set the bowl in front of him so he could eat but seemed to struggle with his front legs to push himself up… he also seems to be “weezing” as he’s breathing.. doesn’t seem to be struggling to breath but I can definitely hear him. I’m worried about him and wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this.. if this is normal and will go away after he gets over his wry neck… or whatever infection he’s got going on? Any sort of reassurance would help. Thank you!
