I brought my bunny inside for the first time a week ago and he’s been living in my room since then. The first 5 days, he was using his litter box perfectly. Then two days ago, he decided he’d only use it half the time. He’s set up with an x pen in the corner of my room. No cage. I think he’s learned the whole pen is his territory so he can go wherever he wants to. I’ve heard that I should just decrease his space so he feels more inclined to keep most of his space clean and poop free. But right now, he’s only peeing directly outside of his litter box. Always right next to it, although the poop’s a bit more spread out. I doubt decreasing his space would work, and he’d probably start rattling his cage at night if he had less room. So what’s the solution? I thoroughly cleaned his cage and litter box today, but he’s still only using the box about half the time. Does he maybe just need a bigger litter box?

Couple questions before I can give advice! Is he neutered? Any other bunnies in the house? Is he eating and drinking okay?

Not neutered yet. Eating and drinking just fine. No other bunnies.

It can be difficult to fully litter box train a rabbit that hasn’t been spayed or neutered. You didn’t say how old he is, but if he is approaching maturity ( 3 or 4 months old) his hormones are kicking in and that could make his litter box use more sporadic. You do need to have an adequate size litter box. If you are using one of those corner ones often sold for rabbits, they aren’t large enough for most rabbits. Do you have his hay inside the litter box? Many people do that to encourage the rabbits to go in.

I don’t know if you’ve already seen this article, but it may be helpful. https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/tabid/53/CategoryID/5/PID/940/Default.aspx

Then I would definitely say it’s him not being neutered that’s causing it. Before my first bunny got neutered and he was just reaching maturity I had gotten another boy bunny and omg let me tell you as soon as the new bunny came around I got peed on every single time I went by thumper. He would jump in the air spin and pee all over the place he was like a little pee sprinkler. After he got neutered well after all the bunnies got neutered the only time they go out of their litter box is if I am behind on my cleaning and they are letting me know hey I’m not going to use this nasty thing clean it or I’ll poop over everything
