Last night I rushed Pants to the emergency vet because I thought he was entering GI stasis. His poops were microscopic and I had not seen him eat since the night before. He refused dandelion greens which he usually loves and that concerned me some bit. He was still drinking water and eating his hay ball so I went to bed.

I woke up at 2am and saw more tiny poops in his litterbox and the dandelion greens that I left out overnight were wilted and untouched. I immediately rushed him to the emergency vet and had xrays taken. He had a full stomach and a little bit of gas. There was a small object in his intestinal tract but the doctor said it was small enough to pass, but could possibly be why he wasn’t eating his greens and is causing gas and smaller poops. They also checked for tooth spurs and his teeth were fine. He did eat hay at the vet’s and the remainder of the hay they gave me to bring home with him this morning. I just went to the fruit market and bought parsley, cilantro, and mint… He refused all three of them. I gave him some simethicone a while ago but he’s still not interested in greens. Can someone please offer some insight?  I did find some regular sized poops in his litterbox this morning, but not many.

As long as hes eating his hay, drinking, pooping regularly, its ok if he skips his greens for a a few days. Is he refusing his most favorite treats? You can try to give him little tummy massages to help pop the gas bubbles in his tummy. Just massage very lightly in small circles

You mentioned they gave you hay. Do you have hay at home that he eats on a regular basis?

              I agree hay is super-important.

As for simethicone: You can give 0,5-1 ml simethicone every hour for 3 hours, then 0,5 ml every 2-3 hours. Light massage like Mikey suggests is good + if you can get your bun to move around. Moving around is the best thing for gas. Gas is painful and a bun in pain often loses its appetite.

If it doesn’t get better soon, go back to the vet (or call them, anyway) and ask for a painkiller (metacam) and perhaps some sub Q fluids. He needs to be properly hydrated for his intestines to work.
