I have a new bunny. He’s 8 weeks and I’ve had him for 2 days now. He’s fairly friendly and will nudge sometimes for pets. I’ve been taking him in and out of the cage to get him used to me handling him and to free play. When I put him back in today, he didn’t struggle and when I out him into the cage, I told him he was good and pet his head. When I went away, he did what looked like zoomies, and ran around his cage, but seemed to be heavy footed when doing it..but not thumping. Was this him just in an excited mode from being out and exploring?

And this may sound silly, but how do I know if he’s having fun exploring and he’s not terrified to get back in the cage? What are some signs to look for either way?

Usually means they are excited When our rabbits get overly excited about anything, they will run laps. One of our bunnies really likes celery as a treat. When hes done eating it, he will run laps around the couch for about 5 minutes before leaping back into the cage and sprawling for a little nap. I cant help but laugh at him every time because hes so little but runs so fast lol

As for how to know hes scared, often when rabbits are scared or nervous, they will sit still and thump. You will often see their eyes bugged out a bit and overall they will look scared. If you think your rabbit gets sad/mad/nervous going back in the cage, i suggest getting him used to it by giving him treats whenever he goes back in after play time

            Awesome info, thank you!

So if he’s out and roaming around, he’s curious and only scared if he’s hiding in a corner, not moving? He was out the other day and seemed curious, but I was nervous he was scared and trying to hide.

He may or may not be scared hiding in the corner. One of my bunnys really enjoys loafing and napping in the corner of their cage for whatever reason. Just pet him or offer treats whenever you think hes nervous and he will slowly warm up to you
