Delilah took her last breath today. She was one half of a bonded pair, Samson and Delilah.

It was 3 weeks ago that she was diagnosed with a mysterious ‘growth’ in her abdomen. It wasn’t a digestive issue. The third vet said it was consistent with a reproductive mass, possibly cancerous tumor.

I rescued her from the local shelter 5 years ago, where they spay/neuter all animals and micro chip. Very strange circumstances indeed. She behaved normally and had an appetite that didn’t cause alarm. I’m very sad for the other bunny. He was her best friend, and had to watch her pass away.

Once the mass had grown to a decent size, she started to get really thin and boney. It was only a matter of time. I feel bad for not putting her down, but she exhibited no pain. She was comfortable up until the final minutes.

I just need to keep a close eye on Samson. He must be traumatized.

I am very sorry for your and Samson’s loss.
It sounds like she was loved and comfy until the last minute though, and that’s saying a lot.
Spend as much time as you can with Samson – it will help you both get through the grief.

I feel lucky that for five years, either one of them have never had a severe illness. Just a minor stasis issue once in a while to let me know to not give them so many treats. The internal growth/tumor caught me by surprise. She was very good at behaving like nothing was wrong.

Yep. That’s what bunnies do… hide their pain like nothing’s wrong.

I’m so sorry about Delilah. You will have to love Samson extra now, this is hard on him.

Some shelters only do a partial spay, to stop unwanted pregnancies. That won’t prevent cancer like a full spay does.

                  Binky Free, Delilah.
