Ok so my bun was just sleeping by me and I went to pet her and her eats were FREEZING cold! Does that mean she was cold? I think I read something where if your buns ears are cold then they are cold, or if their ears are hot they are hot? Correct me if I’m wrong Anyways should I be worried that they were so cold? I’ve warmed them (and her) up and now her body feels colder and her ears feel hotter.. Is she just trying to get off extra heat or what is happening? She is acting normal atleast.

It is true that buns use their ears for thermoregulation, and they’re very good at it. When they want to save body heat, they send out less blood into their ears and vice versa. This is normal though. You can’t tell if a bun is overheated or hypothermic by feeling their ears, you need to take a rectal temp.
Healthy buns are very good at preserving body heat. They’re much more sensitive to heat.

Ok so I guess it’s not that bad lol. I was just worried because they are never that cold usually.

Bunny ears can really go quite cold, I too like to warm them up with my hand =)
A good bunny mom takes notice when there’s something going on that you haven’t encountered before. So you’re being a good bunny mom.

Poor health in a bun often shows itself first as a lack of appetite.

Cold ears aren’t uncommon, however very cold ears can be a symptom of illness. I remember once when I thought Bandit was ill, but wasn’t quite sure yet, I felt his ears and they felt ice cold. Needless to say, I warmed him up and he was ill. Often a rabbit in GI Stasis can get very cold and need warming up.

You can test with a treat if you are worried. If your bun readily accepts the treat, that is a good sign. Sick buns don’t want to eat, that’s part of the shutting down that can happen when they are sick: bunny won’t eat, stops being active, temp drops.

Well luckily she’s eating fine so I don’t think she’s sick and her ears haven’t been cold since then so idk but she’s doing good now. : )
