Whenever I’m putting my rabbit Hazel back into her cage after having her out, she always seems to jump out of my grip no matter how I hold her or how tight. Often times I find that this is because she has to use the bathroom and doesn’t want to do it outside of her cage. Does anyone have any tips for putting a squirmy rabbit back into her cage? She’s jumped pretty high a few times and I would never want her to land funny and hurt herself. Thanks!

So she jumps out of your arms down to the floor as you’re crossing the room?

All my rabbits, if Im holding them will try jump to a horizontal surface if I get near it. ie, like the bed.

Is her cage up high or sitting on the floor?
Perhaps you can herd her to the cage or lure with a treat, and prompt her to get back in herself if it’s at floor level?

She has an outdoor hutch that opens from the top. In order to put her in, I have to lift her slightly and the second I begin to hover her over the cage, she jumps out of my grip to get into it. She never really jumps out of my arms any other time, except for when I first got her and she was very scared.

Ah, I see. How about lifting her into (or getting her to hop into) a small cardboard box or basket then placing the whole thing inside the hutch. She can jump out herself, then you can remove the box. If you use one with high enough sides, she hopefully wont be aware she’s in the hutch until you set it down.

My big boy has been doing this. Impatient little bugger.

Don’t know why I didn’t think of this before. Try covering her eyes.
LPT, might work for Sterling also?

Great idea!! I can’t believe I’ve never thought of that. Thank you so much!

I could try making Sterling a little blindfold…lol. I need both my hands to hold onto him. He’s a lot of bunneh!
