        Hello!
I’ve heard that afalfa hay should be fed to rabbits younger than 7 months. After 7 months, they should be eating a grass hay (ie Timothy or orchard grass). I was wondering if there are any problems with feeding Timothy/orchard grass hay instead of afalfa hay to a bunny younger than 7 months if they are receiving afalfa pellets? And would a Timothy/Afalfa hay mix bale work?
*ps, would Brome hay be safe to feed?
        Thanks

You can absolutely feed grass hay to a young bun, esp if it gets alfalfa-based pellets. The sooner you start a bun on grass hay the better, good habits tend to stick if you lay them down at a young age.
Edit to add: Brome is safe as is fescue, orchard, Timothy and the mixes often sold as meadow. You can use a mixed bale with both alfalfa and Timothy but the bun will pick out the alfalfa. I’d sooner give more pellets and no alfalfa hay, just grass hay.

I’ve only fed my buns Timothy hay, and they’ve been fine, and they also prefer it. I tried to give them alfalfa but they didn’t like it. Also, I spoke to a woman who bred bunnies and she said it made no difference, so who knows.
