  I will be moving into an apartment in a few months with my rabbit. I have a nice sized room, with plenty of space to run around and hold a cage/hutch/rabbit space. Right now, I have a medium sized cage with a plastic bottom and wire top. I rarely have Graham staying in there for long because he is litter-pan trained. However, I just haven’t found a system with the cage that I like. My father offered to purchase a rabbit hutch for my rabbit. But, the hutch is a bit higher off the ground and I like to let Graham out most of the time. I’m thinking of purchasing the hutch and getting a small ramp for him to get up and down, as well as getting wire squares and building a small area on the ground for him to run around so he can be out when I’m not home. Does anyone have any advice going about this? Should I skip the hutch and just do a floor plan for him? I’m really lost when it comes to this.

  Have you thought about setting up an x-pen for him or even building your own NIC cage? You can customize those for your needs.

  I would probably skip the hutch. You could have a tall x pen as his main area at all times if he’s not a jumper, or an NIC condo which you can make a door on the bottom level with and just open that up whenever you’re home. The best part is that that sort of setup is completely customisable as opposed to relying on dimensions of pre-built hutches and placement of doors etc.

  A closed-in hutch is great for safety when you’re not there : either a big wooden one outdoors against natural predators, or if you have a cat or dog or a reason you wouldn’t want an open topped ‘enclosure’ indoors – but really, xpens or enclosures or nic cubes are great for indoors and you can make your own shape with them depending on your room or space you want your bun in.
  Make sure there’s a roof or cover so Graham (sooo great his name! – it was voted the sexiest name about 15 years ago, which made me LOL as my uncle is called Graham, and though a lovely chap, is not in the “sexy” league!!!) can’t jump out.
