I went to refresh my rabbits water this evening before bed and I noticed a strange Poop and a kind of significant amount of it, I will provide images. not thing has been altered in her diet today she is eating the same pellets she has since I got her a week ago, and i began introducing a very small amount of treats in to her diet, they are Little hearts from the natural’s range about the size of my little finger nail, she will get any were from 3-8 scatted amongst the day mostly to aid in encouraging behaviors and getting her attention for a set amount of time.  today I have had the first full cage clean up it was quiet a few hours ago around 1pm though she did not seem to to stressed at it more curious than any thing else.  for cleaning her cage I used a spray i was suggested to get at the pet shop and aside from that i used just warm water and a towel to dry it down.

Had a little issue with pictures. so I linked images below

          Hi LittleLadyJessie

Those are called caecotrophs droppings (or cecals) and these are the ones that rabbits re-ingest to get important nutrients and good bacteria for the gut. Sometimes you’ll see excess ones like this. A lot of excess can be caused from too rich a diet which is why we have to be careful with treats. When the cecals are mush and unformed (not in the grape-like cluster) this tells us there might be an imbalance in their gut.

If you’ve been seeing more cecals since introducing the treats, you may need to reduce amount a little. I’ve seen that brand before but they don’t seem to list the ingredients. I did find one site that listed “cereal” as the main ingredient. I suspect that are mainly corn based which isn’t great… I know that brand makes fenugreek crunchies which are very popular with rabbits and they are predominantly corn.

What is the rest of your rabbits diet?

I noticed in the photo the shavings in the cage. Does your rabbit use a litter box? You can do away with shavings or any bedding type products in the cage. The buns are more likely to only toilet in the litter box that way. Makes it a breeze for cleaning the cage also!!

Yes, jersey girl is right. I’ll add that :
            – shavings are really bad for the rabbit’s respiratory system. I recommend using wooden pellets in a litterbox (and nothing in the rest of the cage)
            – To clean the litterbox / cage white vinegar is the best thing, it’s unexpensive, harmless and works really well to remove the smell and limescale from pee
            – I found the composition from the treats. They are not good for rabbits. As a hint for next time, anything that is advertised for “rabbits and hamsters” can’t be good considering that they don’t have the same dietary regimen (rabbits don’t eat grain, at all, ever – it can contribute to GI stasis issues – they are strict herbivores). The truth is that very few ‘treats’ are good for rabbits. Giving a small piece of apple or carrot will please your rabbit the same and is way more healthy. If you want to keep a tin of treats, you can cut vegetables and fruits in thing slices and dry them (with the sun, a heater or an oven, for example putting them inside when it’s cooling down after using it). Rabbits love them, you can keep them for a long time and it’s not harmful (just a bit fattening, so don’t give too much ^^). It will be a lot cheaper than treats from the store too.
