My 12 week old bunny nala was put on baytril on Thursday for snuffles, she had been poorly since we bought her from the pet store last sat but we initially thought it was an allergy. She stopped eating on wed afternoon and the vet immediately put her on baytril. Yesterday morning much to our relief she started eating and pooing again. She’s Deffo more brighter too, doing binkys all over the house. Still the occasional sneeze tho. She never had discharge, only the sneezes. Now the vet only gave us 7 days of baytril, I keep reading on here that bunnys seem to be on it for much longer than 7 days for snuffles? Dont want to risk it coming back straight away. She really didn’t tolerate syringe feeding v well so can’t go back there again! Should we ask for more when it runs out on wed?

Go in on wednesday for a check up. If it was caught early, a weeks dosage may be all she needs. But if her dosage runs out and she goes back to not eating, youll want to make sure she gets back on it as soon as possible

I think 7 days is standard initial treatment. If you report back to your vet, they may or may not want to prolong it. It’s clearly the right med, and it’s true that snuffles often requires prolonged treatment, but since there’s never been any discharge, chances are you’ve nipped it in the bud. There are unwanted GI side-effects with antibiotics (good tummy bacteria get killed off) so you want to avoid long-term treatment if possible.
Glad to hear she’s doing so much better!
