        Hi guys,

I registered to this forum because I really need some help. I read the rules, and I saw there is no rehoming posts allowed, but this is not a rehoming issue as these aren’t my rabbits.

3 months ago, I saved a bunch of rabbits that someone just abandonned on the side of the road. I immediately posted on craigslist, facebook, left a note on my residence… I was able to get most of the rabbits adopted but two.
I have been asking around, trying to find them a home with no luck. I contacted rescues, and they were full. The only places that would take them were places where they would get euthanized “humanely”, and I don’t think I can do that to them…
About 3 weeks ago, the two rabbits, that were always together, licking each other, and so close turned on each other. I woke up at 7am hearing some chaos downstairs, and the 2 bunnies were fighting so bad and there was blood. I separated them and got bit doing so (It was all my fault going in between them like that. They are so not agressive).
I contacted several vets around me, but none will take rabbits (It was on a Sunday). After closer inspection, they seemed okay. The black one has just a little scrach on his eye. The white one was the one that was hurt, his nose was all messed up.
Eventually got a vet that will take them (from an organization) and she said that they were fighting now because of their hormones and that they needed to be fixed. So I did fix them 2 weeks ago, I also microshipped them. Unfortunately I could not put them back together as they keep fighting everytime I try.
They recovered great and are now ready to be adopted. The black one is a very small rabbit. The white one is a rex rabbit apparently (that’s what the vet said). I really need to find them a home and I don’t know what to do anymore.
My girlfriend is ready to bring them to this place where they euthananize them, but I really want them to have a good life. They deserve it.
Do you guys knwo of anyone or any organization that could help me please? I am located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
        Thank you.

Thank you for saving these buns. If you say what general area you are in, it’s easier for members to help you.
We don’t have a rehomung-section, but Rabbitsonline, another bunny forum, has one, so please post there as well. (I’m on my phone so I can’t link, but it’ll show up in a Google search).
I’m glad you separated them. Sexually mature bunnies or bunnies coming into puberty can fight really bad, much worse than you’d expect from such cute little animals. If you’re not sure of gender, that’s another reason to keep them apart, rabbits breed like rabbits.

Once two rabbits fight, even if they are then neutered, they will continue to fight. It was good of you to take them both to a vet and get them fixed. I really hope you can find them both good homes.

Thank you for saving the rabbits and for providing vet care for them.  Does the vet who saw the rabbits know that you are looking for homes for them? Sometimes a vet can help with rehoming. They may know of a family looking to adopt or they might let you put up a notice about the rabbits in their office. Most rescues do stay full, but you can contact them again and see if any will put you on a waiting list.

You’ve done so much for these rabbits already! Unfortunately, people do dump them from Easter onwards. Rabbits given as gifts have matured enough to have their own litters and suddenly people are inundated.

                  You can contact House
Rabbit Society and they may advertise in their social media. Contact details part way down in this article.

Because you are in the Bay Area, there are a lot of great resources. While most rescues will not take in rabbits from people, (because they take in the bunnies at risk from euthanasia from shelters all over bay area first). You can try different shelters — Good shelters with great rabbit sections are Oakland Animal Shelter, The Peninsula Humane Society, and you can also try the San Francisco Animal Care and Control. Which is where I have adopted a bunny from! (I think the San Francisco SPCA takes bunnies too). Now while I think two of these are kill shelters, they do get a lot of exposure through other rescues cross promoting them. For example — Check out this page from SaveABunny — they map out the shelters and give their opinions about a some of them to the left of the map. http://saveabunny.org/bayareashelters

But before you surrender them to a kill shelter, be sure to ask if they have a policy of notification first before euthanasia. I had surrendered 2 bunnies found on a golf course to a shelter, and they did give me the option to be notified before euthanasia so I could then adopt them and try to find a home for them myself if need be. Luckily they were adopted without a problem. But these are some options!

Good Luck and keep us updated.
