Olaf was acting normally all day today but about an hour ago he started to shift uncomfortably in his cage. He then laid in his litter box (which he never does) and was breathing quickly (but not belabored or audibly). His ears do not feel abnormally hot or cold, but he did lean into the frozen water bottle that I laid next to him.

He got in and out a few times to stretch out on the floor of this cage and had an accident (which is very unusual for him). He’s now back to sitting/laying but is clearly uncomfortable. He does respond positively to petting/massaging so I’ve been trying to rub his sides and belly in case it is gas or disruption.

Thoughts? Advice? He was eating, drinking, and pottying as normal all day today so it’s hard to tell if he won’t eat right now because of illness or just isn’t hungry at the moment after dinner earlier. I left wet veggies, his pellets, hay, and water nearby so he doesn’t have to go up to his loft for them. This is the first time he has shown any malaise since I got him so I’m not sure what it all means. There is no 24/hr vet so it will have to wait until morning if this continues.

He just had two more accidents. Of the three, the first two were clear/orange, as usual. The last accident was cloudy and orange/gray, slightly more viscous. There were also three poops strung together. He is going through a light molt so I’m thinking there is some hair buildup and possibly some sludge in his urine, if not a UTI. All of the accidents have been substantial so I’m trying to get him to eat some pellet slurry and wet veg for fluids. He’ll definitely be at the vet first thing in the morning but I’m going to sleep on the couch near him tonight. Poor thing hasn’t lost his sweetness, even in all this discomfort. :[

Have you tried infant gas drops (simethicone) in case of gas? Could he be overheated despite the cold bottle? (((Feel better, little Olaf)))

Thank you for the suggestion and support. I, stupidly, forgot to get some of that medication for him. I meant to add it to my bunny first aid kit but it slipped my mind. Of course now regretting it. I will get some tomorrow for sure. He seems to be breathing normally again, but still sitting uncomfortably and kind of zoned out.

Fortunately, he seems to be improving. We’re headed to the vet for a check-up anyways but this morning he was eating like a horse and I even saw him binky. I think it was gas/small blockage and he may have been urinating out of pain or fear. We’ll see how it goes today.

Hopefully poor Olaf is on the mend now. Our buns do like to scare us!

Hope Olaf is doing better today! It sounds like we both went through very similar scares last night. Sending you some bunny love!

Thank you everyone! I appreciate the help and support. He’s doing really well now and was cooed over by the vet staff for being a good boy. We got some medicine and some critical care in case it flares up again. He is otherwise healthy. He got a big bowl of greens and a long petting session for good luck. Happy to hear Tinkerbell is doing better, too! :]

I too had a similar experience as yours. My bunny will sit hunched and move around uncomfortably. She even flopped in her potty which was the first time I ever see her doing that. Turned out she ingested Alot of her fur and took her around two days to be normal again
