I just spent all weekend building a 4 story NIC condo on wheels for Jack. I built it in my kitchen where I have more space, but when I went to wheel it into the living room I discovered that my door is only 29 inches and the base is 30.

I’m going to have to remove the whole cage from the base and move the pieces in separately and then put it all together again. The cage itself is 42x28x42 inches and I installed rugs on every level with additional supportive dowels under them. The base is on swivel casters and is 30×44 inches. The whole thing is probably around 75 lbs.

I’m so mad at myself. I know better than this

Pictures to follow once I put it all together again. Hopefully it doesn’t fall apart. Ugh. So stupid!!!!

          Been there. Done that.
Only consolation is that the second time around is ‘usually’ quicker…..
is there no way atall you can transport all cages on 28inch rods or something….or cross beams or hockey sticks…..
oh well…..whats done is done…. put it down to experience. Good luck!!

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve done that. It’s certainly something I was lucky with when I moved the condo from our previous rental to this one. My previous rental had a big double back door that any piece of furniture would fit through. Here, the widest door to outside is only a few cm wider than the condo. I was so happy when it fit through.

So… not only did I need to remove the cage from the base, but I also had to saw down the supports with a hand saw (they were screwed into the peg board AND secured with zip ties so I couldn’t remove them. My boyfriend is a saint for helping.

I posted the pics in the Habitat section here:

Here’s a bonus photo of Jack enjoying his breakfast on the 3rd floor.
