We are having workmen at the house next week and I am very nervous about how Bramble will cope. They’re working in the house and replacing the garden fences. The neighbours have a dog so with no fence up she can’t go outside.

Bramble is very highly strung, hates strangers and any change!

She will need to be kept locked in her cage during the day and at night. She is free roam so will not take kindly to this. Add strangers stomping around and I don’t think she will be happy. Funnily though she has no problem with power tools as she is usually outside with us when we do all our diy!

Anyone had anything similar? Any tips? Thanks in advance.

Around bonfire night, I put on something familiar and ‘safe’ but noisy, like Star Wars, with the volume a little higher than usual. It seems to work, as no bun or pig is bothered by the outside bangs and flashes, which can last several days. Could you adapt this, so she gets used to something loud on the TV, then put her, her cage, and the TV in a room the workmen won’t need to go in?

I would suggest that you keep her in rooms that they aren’t working in if possible. Loud noises + strangers probably won’t make her happy even if she is use to your power tools. Keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn’t start a panic induced thumping fit. Bunnies can apparently thump themselves into a heart attack when scared.
My bunnies usually find it comforting when I pet them and tell them it’s ok. I try to tell them it’ll be done soon, I don’t know if they understand but it seems like they do sometimes lol.

Thanks, Rebelbun. I’ll do the best I can to keep her out the way. Hoping she doesn’t freak out too much.

Gina that’s a fab idea. She likes bing bang theory, think it might be the colours, so I’ll start getting her used to that on loud now. Thank you!

Yr welcome, hopefully that’ll do a good job of masking the noise of the workmen!
