Hi! I will be getting my baby bunny soon, he will be about 2-3 months old. I was wondering if it is ok to feed him Orchard Grass hay instead of alfalfa hay, until he can have timothy? I have heard that baby buns should be fed alfalfa hay, but i really dont have the money to buy multiple bags of alfalfa hay, when i can just buy a box of small pet select orchard grass hay. he will still get alfalfa pellets, though. thanks and have a blessed day!!

If you’ll be feeding him alfalfa-based pellets, then alfalfa hay isn’t necessary. Any grass hay is fine, it doesn’t need to be timothy.

Totally second LBJ, any grass hay is fine, if he’s getting alfalfa pellets, alfalfa hay is not required. It’s actually very good to start a bunny on grass hay early, because alfalfa is yummier and it can be tough to wean a bunny off it at 5-6 months when it shouldn’t eat alfalfa hay anymore.

Orchard grass is imo lovely hay that has the added benefit of not making me sneeze the way timothy does.
