        Hi guys!

So I just came back from college and found out that my bunny is sick. My parents have been taking her to the vet and she’s been on antibiotics for two weeks. I’m taking her to the vet Thursday for a check up and plan to ask him the following questions I’m about to ask you guys. My bunny has congestion issues and is wheezing quite a bit. She’s been as active as she’s been before, eating her hay and greens, drinking her water (but less than usual but drinking nevertheless). But, is it normal that she’s refusing her pellets altogether? I’m nervous since I’ve had her for five and a half years and she’s never gotten sick once so this is new to me. She’s lost some weight according to the vet when my parents have taken her. Also, if it’s just a sinus infection like they suspect, how long should she bounce back from it? She’s just reached the two week point with her antibiotics and according to my parents, her wheezing isn’t as bad as when it first started.

I want to apologize as well if this is in the wrong place or something. This is my first post here! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

          Welcome!
Do you have a rabbit-savvy vet you are taking her to? Having a knowledgable vet always makes things easier.
Wheezing and other cold-like symptoms are often caused by pasturella, a bacteria carried by most rabbits but only affecting a few. What are the antibiotics she has been given?
Although it doesn’t seem likely, I am wondering about maybe teeth issues? Overgrown molars can often result in runny noses and loss of appetite. Could be worth mentioning.
Let us know how the visit goes!

            Welcome!
A sinus infection that has reached the lungs can take quite a while to clear up. She might need antibiotics for several weeks or a different antibiotic or combo antibiotics. Treatment is often too short, and then the infection flares up again after a couple of days – a week.

Since she needs lots of nutrients now you could try making her a pellet mash with sth yummy, like baby fruit puree. If you can get Critrical Care that’s even better, it has everything a bunny needs. Teeth issues are, as LEL says, often the culprit when a bunny doesn’t want to eat the types of food it normally likes. Teeth issues are common in bunnies, so def. ask your vet about that. But for now, getting her to eat really nutritious food is of course the priority.

You can also ask your vet about probiotics for bunnies. A prolonged course of antibiotics is hard on the tummy.

Thanks for the responses! She is on Baytril and when we took her to the vet we found out some disappointing news. The vet took an x-ray and found what appears to be a mass in her nasal cavity. His response to that was that it’s a tumor or a problem with her teeth. He then referred us to another rabbit-savvy vet for a second opinion. I’m terrified because he said if it’s a tumor to just put her down. So, on Sunday we’re taking her to the other vet and he’s going to determine exactly what it is.
