Blue’s had very matted poopy butt on which the poop was HARD! A butt bath didn’t even help! It was like pads of poop which were most prominent on the underside of his tale. Today it made a loop. Half of it had fallen off in the center of his butt fur. I pulled on the loop and about 6 inches worth of butt hair, poopy matting and all fell off. I got a few more pieces and he now has a very very fluffy grey butt. Poopy butt free now (knock on wood) but is this normal?! Help please!!! I’m panicking!

Sounds like he had some messy poos or excess cecals which he then sat on and it dried. If he was shedding also, this would explain the hair falling off with the dried poop.

Can you think of any reason his poos would be abnormal? Has his diet been changed recently?

Don’t panic! I agree with LPT, it sounds like poopy butt aka Intermittent Soft Cecotropes. Sometimes their tummies act up when they molt. Changes in diet can also cause ISC. Encourage hay-eating. Brush off as much loose hair as you can every day, and you can finish by lint-rolling the back and sides. With a normal-haired bunny I find lint-rolling to be very effective, use a generic brand lint-roller, name-brands can have too sticky glue.

And check his rear regularly. Is he getting too much pellets? Too many treats? Sometimes it’s a new veg that’s not agreeing with the bunny.

Pippi did this yesterday, first time in weeks, I put it down to him moulting. Thankfully, he’d messed most over the floor rather than on himself!

He ate a lot of kale. We have since switched to dandelion.
