They could be scared of you since they are new and don’t really know you, but bunnies – especially young bunnies – can thump for other reasons as well. They can even thump with happiness while they are out playing. They can thump for attention or from impatience. You have to judge by their general appearance.

Bunnies, except very small babies, think everything is a danger that they haven’t encountered before. That’s very wise of them, so many predators want to eat buns that they just can’t chance on strangers being nice and friendly. They do of course get used to their human, esp if the human is bringing food.

Avoid big gestures, making loud noises etc until they’ve had a chance to get used to their new surroundings. They will soon see you as the bringer of all things good.
