Hello! I’d like some advice on how to improve my new bunny’s home and more toys to give her. This is her current set up…

My new house rabbit Quozl has a 36inch by 24inch cage that is 30 inches high. She has a litter box big enough for her to move around in which she uses perfectly, a hay feeder above it which she doesnt seem to like using, and a water bowl and heavy food bowl. She has scraps of cardboard scattered over 1/5 of the floor which she loves to rip up, the other 2/5 is covered by a towel she has marked and stretches out on, and I just gave her a piece of sheepskin to cover the other 2/5 but she doesn’t seem interested in it despite my scattering poos and hay and food on it to ‘welcome’ her to it… But I only gave her that yesterday so we’ll see. She also has a ‘treehouse’, which is a cardboard house I made. I threaded and bound organic applewood sticks through the bars of one corner of the cage and sat this cardboard house on top and secured it and added a cardboard and apple wood stick ramp. She loves this house, especially when I fill it with greens and hay! There is also an applewood branch making funky shapes up one corner of her cage and I use pegs to hang greens from it and organic blackcurrent branches with baby leaves and new shoots on which she loves to eat. She loves chewing on these branches which is great, should keep her teeth in check! 1/3 of her cage, over the sheepskin area which is also beneath the treehouse, is covered by cloth to help her feel more secure in her ‘den’.

She is enclosed in her cage at night and when I am out of my flat (not often!), and during the day when I’m home the cage door is open, leading in to an octagonal pen that is about 1.5m in diameter. This pen contains her “fun” carry case with a towel in which she likes to sit in, and a second litter box. This pen has a second door that opens out into my lounge. She has two carry cases, the “fun” one only ever takes her to nice places, and the “other” case which we went to the vets in and collected her in, because I remember my previous pets getting such anxiety about getting in their carry case from smelling their own stress scent in it… and as Quozl will be travelling 2 mins down the road to my partner’s organic farm often I want her to know she can trust this “fun” carry case and get excited about going in it.

I can tell she needs to run. She does loops and figure eights of her pen/cage sometimes and binkies, and I am trying to acclimatize her to the lounge one square meter at a time… but we haven’t yet got past the first square meter because she sprays (I have posted in “behavior” for advice on this). I am getting tempted to cover the walls of the hallway with plastic and let her loose in there for some zooming laps as the floor is tiled and easy to clean and I made her a cardboard castle that would fit in there. We have become tentatively good friends already and worked up to 4 hours of one-on-one play a day. But in the meantime I want some ideas of more entertainment for her. I have made her all sorts of cardboard dens and the castle but they are too big for her pen and she can only use them once she’s got use of the lounge properly. I would love some advice of fun toys to entertain her while she’s still partially confined to her pen and cage, or ideas of how to improve her set up… preferably things I can make myself out of cardboard/branches/household things, or also just advice on how to better engage with her and play rabbit-style whilst in this smaller area?

          Thank you! Yasmin x

She sounds like she has a nice little home already! Do you have any photos you can post?
