Concerned about my boy. It started about a month ago, maybe less, that Bindi has not been drinking. Even if I put juice in it he won’t touch it. He’s excited about the smell of apple juice but unwilling to drink. He still gets the Sub Q fluids (which is why we haven’t been to the vet sooner, he pretty much gets what he needs with the sub Q) because we’re not sure how much he actually gets in his mouth when he drinks but it’s not normal for him to not drink. Right before Olivia passed away, he was downing half a crock of water daily. Now he refuses to drink. Gonna get him checked out this afternoon. Worried it’s something with his mouth. Can’t see what else it could be. He really isn’t due for his teeth yet.

          Vibes for (((Bindi)))

Could he be grieving? Pippi stopped eating hay for ages when Rusty was PTS last August, even though he was bonded immediately with Jenny. It was just the hay he stopped eating, he ate normally otherwise.

Teeth-problems would sooner make him drink more than less I’d think? Could he have trouble with his tongue?
Dearest little Bindi Loo, please tell your mommy what’s wrong!

{{{Bindi}}} I hope the vet visit goes okay. I don’t know if too late, but maybe try collect some urine before you go in? If you have a new syringe, you could draw it up in that and take it in that way.

                    Thanks, guys.

So he has a broken molar that will need to be filed down. I was worried about an abscess or an ulcer. No way to tell for sure if this is what is making him not drink. Vet will have a better look in his mouth while he’s asleep.

He gets his sub Q fluids every day so I’m not worried he will get dehydrated. He’s going Tuesday to get the tooth taken care of. I’m very worried, last time I had a bunny put under, I didn’t bring her back home again. We had to put Olivia down after due to complications from the anaesthetic.

Bindi gets his teeth done quite often but I’m still worried.

I don’t think it’s a grieving thing because he’s still eating with a voracious appetite.

And vibes for you too (((((LPT))))). I can very well understand how worried you must be. I was so worried when Yohio was put under last week. Olivia was extremely upset by vet-visits, I remember you told us, maybe that stress contributed a lot to her tragedy? Bindi seems like a more laid-back guy.

There’s no other option though, can’t have a bun with a broken molar and not fix it.

Can certainly understand why you’re feeling especially nervous. Bindi has been such a trooper. I’m hoping all will be well for him.

Do you think giving water that’s not overly cold would appeal to him? Normally bunnies wouldn’t go for that but he might be a bit sensitive to cold at the moment. Trouble would be getting him to realise it’s not cold, cold water…

I suppose you had to deal with similar sensitivities with Everly whenever she’s teething! What food is accepted one day to the next etc.

Oh no, poor Bindi! He just keeps having troubles.

One thought I had is perhaps the subQ fluids are making him not feel thirsty. I suppose you will find out once you stop giving them to him.

                                    Thanks everyone.

That’s what my vet said, LBJ10, but he’s been on sub Q for over a year and a half and still drinking until recently. And when I used to put juice in it once in a while, he would gobble the whole bowl down.

Jersey- didn’t think about the cold water. Maybe his tooth is sensitive. It really takes a lot to make this guy stop eating, thankfully. Even after the whole tongue ordeal, he was still eating normally which is pretty hard to believe. He’s really a little trooper.

I still try every other day or so putting apple juice in it. Just gonna try to not worry about it since he gets his fluids and I know there is nothing going on with his mouth.

Maybe it’s just a phase that goes away as suddenly as it came on.

LPT, did he ever learn to use the bottle again after the tongue wound? Maybe setting one of those up would make him curious enough to try..

Is drinking from a bowl the only thing he does where he consistently has to keep his head lowered?  Just trying to think of reasons he might be avoiding that. (Neck, ears, breathing ??? )

Maybe it’s simply he no longer feels thirsty.
