I am going on vacation for a week. A family member has offered to watch my rabbit for the week. She does however have some pets and that is a bit worrying. She is planning on putting her in a room where the door doesn’t latch, but the door will be closed. She has…

        a dog

        2 cats

        and an outdoor rabbit.

Will it be helpful that the animals are used to a rabbit already or does it only mean they are going to not attack their bunny?

What should I watch for with the animals and how they act around her when I drop her off?

        Thanks a lot!

Edit: Also, she will not be loose around the other animals, but I’m concerned how hard they will try to get into the cage or if a dog would even think to attack the cage.

If your family can keep everyone separate, that is good. Will your bunny be in a closed cage just in case one of the animals gets in there?

She will be in her cage most of the time, never out of the cage around the animals, and even has a little burrow inside the cage she can hide in. I would also hope that the animals will be used to a rabbit enough that they won’t be too curious.

A strange rabbit will still probably pique their interest. A home might have multiple dogs for example, but when a new dog shows up, everyone goes nuts.

I imagine it would at least pique their interest, but the dog knows how to play with their other rabbit and is actually not much bigger than my rabbit, it’s a very small dog that would have to be REALLY aggressive to get into her cage. I just wanna make sure that if she’s kept in her cage in a room with the door closed that it should be fine.

If you’re uncomfortable, maybe you could talk them into putting one of those eye-hook lock things on the door? Or block it with something heavy (or a baby gate on the inside of the door) just as extra measures.

Just on a side note, you might want to make sure her rabbit is healthy before bringing yours over there. We’ve had some pets get sick from pet sitters’ animals, so it’s always best just to be sure. Good luck!

I will see if they can put something in front, but the dog is so little, it may struggle to open the door.

Her rabbit is actually an outdoor rabbit, but the animals are still used to playing with it. So the rabbits won’t interact a bunch.

What breed of dog? Some smaller breeds, especially terriers, have a really high prey drive. When my Mom brings her Westie over to my house, I have to barricade the rabbit room and she still goes nuts trying to get in there. This is a really high prey drive dog, however, she kills birds.

I have 4 dogs, as LPT was saying, some dogs have way more of a prey drive than other breeds.
