My new bun is approaching 6 weeks very soon and from the research I have done thats when mother bunny weans, I just am not sure how to go about doing it, it absolutely loves its milk and as its getting bigger, its portion sizes increasing.

Does anyone have experience doing this? How would I wean and how many days should it take?

Hi! I am currently weaning my baby bunny, and I have a few tips that I hope would help you. To answer your question, I am diluting my bunnies milk, but she doesn’t lose that much interest. I would start off diluting her milk, (adding more water,) and if they don’t stop then I would just stop giving it to them. If they don’t have any other food to munch on, then I wouldn’t stop giving it to them right away. Just make sure they have plenty of hay, pellets, and veggies. And for your last question, I don’t think there is a certain time for them to stop. Bunnies are somewhat like babies, so you’ll have to stop giving them milk eventually, even if they still want more. I hope some of this helps, lol. : )

A bit ago I stopped giving my bunny milk and she still looks around for it and she was supposed to stop on milk a really long time ago so if it takes too long I suggest taking it away completely. It sounds rude but it helps lol. If you haven’t started them on vegetables I would introduce a few by now and if you ever see a change in their poop I also suggest weaning slower, and not adding as much water. Just make sure they have hay if their digestive system gets too out of control. Im making this sound scary but I’m sure your bun will be fine. : )
