I have taken him to the vet twice and she did the mite test each time and nothing came back. I used Revolution and it worked briefly. Now his bald spot is getting bigger and she won’t prescribe me any meds because she doesnt know what it could be. She also did another test and blood tests and I’ll find out the results in 2 days, but I think that was for urine which I still need to provide her a sample because lately he’s been urinating over the outside of his box (I’ve gone through three different sizes, maybe I need a larger cat sized one) and I thought this one is high enough. He defecates in it though. His urine seems a tad bit dark like a light caramel and he’s been drinking a lot of water, but that could be due to the weather getting warmer.

Could all this also be psychological? When I had adopted him, I could not afford to adopt his brother or sister or any rabbit he lived with. I mean he was constantly grooming himself at my place but at the same time he’s usually in a relaxed lounging state. I haven’t seen him do binkies since the family cat stayed at my place or since I stayed at my parents with the cat there too. He was such a happy bun with the cat even though the cat found him annoying and if I can recall, I don’t think he scratched as much. This vet is ridiculous and I can’t afford any more pricey tests let alone medications that may not even help him. Should I get him a companion? I’m going to wait on the blood results though. She wanted to test for worms too but that’s $152!

I very much doubt it could be “purely” psychological, but it can absolutely be from a dip in his immune system due to him being without his brother. Rabbits form very, very tight friendships and can become severely depressed when separated. That lowers the body’s ability to fight off or keep in check f ex mites.

It’s not uncommon at all for a skin test to come back negative even when there is a mite-infestation. Revolution can be used empirically, ie when you suspect mites but can’t prove they are there. If the Revolution then helps, there were mites. Sometimes with heavy infestations you need to treat more than once, Medirabbit says Revolution should be used 3 times in a row with at least 8 days between treatments. This is in order to kill mites in all life-stages. It seems odd that your vet doesn’t want to treat him again, if Revolution had some effect to begin with. Could you find another vet?

Rabbit urine can come in a variety of colors, all normal and healthy. The color varies a lot with the time of year, temperature and diet, amount of water consumed etc. A bunny that is itching or has some other physical problem like pain can “forget” about his good litter-box habits. If you get this problem fixed, I think he’ll go back to peeing in the box again.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. You are much much more helpful than my vet. She said I had to wait a month before reapplying. I am going to use it now. His patch is only getting bigger, poor guy. I am definitely going to seek another vet as well since these ones seemed to be concerned only about money.
