I don’t know if I’m doing anything wrong, but…I got a question. I’m having trouble getting my bunny to chew on anything, expect for this one toy that I bought her. (it was a hanging chew, and she just pulled it down.) She’s only 4 months, but she nibbles on a toy and leaves it alone, and drops it. I was wondering is chewing something that they grow into or…is it just my rabbit’s personality? Will it pick up after I get her fixed or now?

Hi Sarabelle, I would love to have your problem! I know that rabbits need to wear down their teeth, so if your rabbit is chewing hay and eating normally, I think she should be fine. If not, she will need to see a vet because not eating is not normal. Thor never liked to chew store bought toys till Crysta came along. He used to nibble, and then leave it for… forever. My rabbits demolished a BinkyBunny willow basket in 2 days, so I highly recommend those.

Why don’t you try fresh willow sticks or applewood (I think that’s what it’s called) sticks? You can get them online. Just make sure the farm doesn’t use pesticides or anything like that. Just don’t leave your shoes lying around, because that… is a bad idea.

How I wish my bunny didn’t want to chew on anything! I remember him not chewing so much when he was younger, but now that he’s about 15 months, he chews EVERYTHING! It’s a little bit of trial and error – I bought Butters a lot of toys that he didn’t touch (mostly blocks), but he really enjoys nibbling on pieces of cardboard and apple twigs. I ordered a bunch of twigs from a farm that didn’t use pesticides for pretty cheap. I used to get so excited going to the pet store to buy little toys for my rabbit, and then he’d just ignore them!

You’re lucky she’s a hay eating machine – so good for her teeth and her overall health!

I also 2nd Love4Bunny’s comment on not leaving shoes around…and I can add to that with edges of carpet, wires (especially white ones and laptop ones, you know, the ones you really need), and books/school notes!

My bunny has plenty of chew toys like wood and willow but hardly touches them. His cardboard box is his fave thing to chew as well as naughty things like books and furniture.

I’m sure she’s fine. As long as everything else is normal. It’s probably her personality. My bunny chews on everything. Love4Bunny, I totally agree with the shoes – my bunny has chewed a couple of pairs of shoes!

Bunbun, that must’ve been so annoying!

Sarabelle, it’s the calm before the storm you need to keep an eye out for… Basically, when they’re quiet, you know they’re occupied chewing your brand new pair of $150 leather shoes, that you promised yourself you wouldn’t leave on the floor! Luckily the damage wasn’t too bad. I’m really glad your bunny is a hay munching machine.

Like Butters mentioned, you do have to keep a watch out for carpet corners and wires. Thor shredded the carpet behind the door. I was mortified.

Mine doesn’t really like toys either, hates to chew on cardboard. Only thing I’ve really found that she likes to chew on is woven willow(not plain, has to be woven!) and the wooden stairs. Of course she knows shes not supposed to be doing that last one. Oh, and we discovered we have wood floors under the carpet after she decided our house obviously needs a tunnel.
