I’m pretty sure on this already. But I just discovered that I have an unopened packet of critical care which expires in June this year. Is the best way to keep it to put it in the freezer? I’m pretty sure that’s how you keep it fresh. Even if I opened it and used it after the expiry and continued to freeze it after I could use it again, that’s right isn’t it?

Yes, you can extend the shelf life by putting powder in the freezer.

Yes, opened sachets of CC should be kept in the freezer, whether they have expired or not, so as to extend shelf-life. So you can re-freeze it and use again.

Thanks so much for the link and confirmation Good to know. It mentions that freezing can extend the life by six months, and the package is good for 6 months after opening. So by that definition, if I didn’t open it until 6 months after expiry, it could still be good for another six months. Good to know. It always bothered me that I would get a packet, use it maybe once or twice and then by the time I needed it again, it was expired. Just glad I found it before the expiry.

              Thanks again both of you

I never knew it should be frozen. I just keep mine on the counter cuz I use it everyday. Maybe I will just put it in the fridge since it doesn’t last very long. Bindi gets a few servings per day to help keep his weight up.

If you’re using it within 6 months of opening I don’t think it needs to be frozen, so it probably doesn’t matter if you’re using it every day. I imagine you go through a packet well before then.
