For the last few days a cat has been sat in my garden, he has no collar on, I think he has mange so I won’t touch him, he slavers a lot, (I say he but could be a she.) I gave it some water but he struggled to drink it, I can’t find his owner, I just want to do what is best for the cat, any ideas? I’m not able to catch him and take him somewhere because I’m disabled.

Alright, second time lucky with posting this reply. To me it sounds as if the cat is very unwell, the fact that he hasn’t moved from your yard, he wants to drink but had trouble doing so (cats don’t drink very often) and is likely dehydrated. It’s possible he has a respiratory infection or something, which means that you likely won’t be able to get him to eat anything either. My recommendation would be to ring around to some local rescues to see if any of them would be willing to come out and catch the cat.

Best of luck, really hope someone can get him secured and safely to a vet.

I agree. There should be a local rescue that specializes in trapping cats. If you explain the situation to them, I would think they would be willing to come help you.

If he’s drooling a lot, could be he has something nasty, like rabies or something. Dealing with sick unknown feral animals can be dangerous. It might be good to call a game warden (or whatever you have over there) or someone who knows how to handle sick animals. Be safe!

Drooling could also equal to a dental problem (including wanting to drink, but it could be too painful). Dogs and cats normally don’t live past 10 days of contracting rabies, so if he’s been around for a while I doubt it’s that. (Obviously always take precaution. Rabies is transmitted by saliva so don’t touch his drool and if you get bit you should seek medical help)

I’d definitely call around your local shelters and stuff. He sounds unwell, and It’s important for him to stay hydrated and have plenty to eat to keep his stomach going.
